Priyanka Chopra Jonas Reflects on 'Kaminey' as a Career Milestone

New Delhi, Aug 18 (PTI) – Priyanka Chopra Jonas, a renowned actor, has declared the 2009 film "Kaminey" as a pivotal moment in her career, marking her first collaboration with esteemed filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj.

Chopra Jonas recently reminisced about this film by sharing a still on her Instagram account earlier this week.

The movie, which also starred Shahid Kapoor in a dual role, was released on August 14, 2009. It revolved around the rivalry between twins Charlie and Guddu, both portrayed by Kapoor, while Chopra Jonas took on the role of Sweety Bhope.

At 43 years old, the actor recalled being on location in Miami filming "Dostana" when Bhardwaj reached out to her.

She candidly expressed her eagerness to work with Bhardwaj, although she never expected him to cast her due to her prevalent "commercial" image at the time. Their conversation led to Bhardwaj visiting her in Miami himself.

"While filming for 'Dostana' in Miami, Florida... I noticed a missed call from Vishal Bhardwaj one evening after wrapping up the shoot. What?? I'd longed to work with him and didn't think he'd cast me due to my 'commercial' image at the time... He expressed his interest in meeting me, and he did indeed visit me in Miami," she reminisced in her post.

The "Mujhse Shaadi Karogi" star mentioned that the director assured her, despite her character having only eight scenes, that they would create something exceptional together. "I recall saying, 'She only has around 8 scenes.' To which he replied, 'With us working on it, it'll be much more than that. Trust me.' And I did... He promised to work on something extraordinary for me later in appreciation of this role, though I was simply eager to collaborate with him," she added.

"Kaminey" turned out to be a commercial success, grossing over Rs 710 million at the box office.

Following this, Jonas worked with Bhardwaj on "7 Khoon Maaf," released in 2011, based on the Ruskin Bond short story, "Susanna's Seven Husbands."

"#Kaminey stands as a career milestone for me. I gained valuable insights from the maestro @vishalrbhardwaj on researching, preparing, and fully immersing into a role. @shahidkapoor delivered an outstanding performance in his dual roles... Those days are cherished moments. 16 years have passed! Just thought I'd share this treasured experience," she concluded.

The film also featured pivotal performances by Amole Gupte, Shivkumar Subramaniam, and Chandan Roy Sanyal.
