Renowned Malayalam Filmmaker Nisar Passes Away at 65

Kottayam, Kerala, Aug 18 (PTI) - Renowned Malayalam filmmaker Nisar, admired for crafting mainstream films on modest budgets, passed away on Monday while receiving treatment in Changanassery, according to industry insiders. He was 65.

Hailing from Thrikkodithanam near Changanassery, Nisar made a notable debut in 1994 with the successful film 'Sudinam.' Over the years, he directed a total of 27 films across the Malayalam and Tamil film industries. His last venture, 'Laughing Apartment Near Girinagar,' was released in 2018.

In a heartfelt tribute, the directors' union FEFKA highlighted Nisar's distinctive ability to complete films swiftly without sacrificing quality. “His pragmatic approach and technical prowess—particularly his use of dupes and creative 'cheating shots' to expedite production—became essential learning tools for numerous budding filmmakers,” shared the union in a Facebook tribute. Nisar was lauded for his skill in filming intricate roles, often managing to work with busy actors like Jagathy Sreekumar in just a few days.

Nisar's innovative single-shot film 'Two Days' was well-received, earning accolades at various film festivals. The burial rites are scheduled at a local mosque, his relatives confirmed.
