Monica Barbaro Joins Luca Guadagnino's Film 'Artificial' at Amazon MGM Studios

Los Angeles, Jul 29 (PTI) Actor Monica Barbaro has landed a prominent role in Luca Guadagnino's forthcoming film, "Artificial," which is being developed for Amazon MGM Studios. According to a report by Variety, the actress, recognized for her performances in "Top Gun: Maverick" and "A Complete Unknown," will join an impressive ensemble cast that includes Andrew Garfield, Yura Borisov, Jason Schwartzman, Cooper Hoffman, and Cooper Koch. Described as a "comedic drama set in the world of artificial intelligence," the specific plot details are currently undisclosed. The story will focus on the dramatic events at OpenAI in 2023, where CEO Sam Altman was dismissed and then swiftly reinstated days later. Altman, a co-founder of OpenAI, faced dismissal in the fall of 2023 due to growing concerns over AI safety and allegations of abusive behavior, only to be reinstated following internal backlash. Garfield is cast as Altman, with Barbaro portraying chief technology officer Mira Murati and Borisov assuming the role of co-founder Ilya Sutskever, who spearheaded the campaign to oust Altman. Heyday Films' David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford are producing the film, which boasts a screenplay by Simon Rich. Amazon plans to commence production later this year. Barbaro's most recent project, "A Complete Unknown," saw her share the screen with Timothee Chalamet. Directed by James Mangold, this biopic of American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan premiered in December last year.
