Fans Pay Tribute to Kishore Kumar in Khandwa on His 38th Death Anniversary

Khandwa/Indore, Oct 13 (PTI) - This Monday, fans from all over India congregated in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, the birthplace of the legendary singer-actor Kishore Kumar, to honor the 38th anniversary of his passing. Among the attendees was 70-year-old Dwarakadas Soni from Rajkot, Gujarat. He shared with PTI that he had also attended Kumar's funeral in 1987. Soni reminisced, “I frequently traveled to Khandwa during Kishore Kumar’s lifetime, hoping for a chance to meet him. At the time of his cremation, fans queued for kilometers to catch one last glimpse. Visiting his memorial in Khandwa brings a sense of his enduring presence,” he mentioned, softly singing the iconic "Koi humdum na raha, koi sahara na raha." Members of the Kishore Prerna Manch, a local fan group, paid homage by offering milk-jalebi at his memorial, a delicacy Kumar loved greatly. Known for his fondness of Khandwa, Kumar often expressed his desire to "doodh-jalebi khayenge, Khandwa mein bas jayenge" during his time in Mumbai. This connection led to his cremation there after his demise in the city. Kishore Kumar was born Abhas Kumar Ganguly on August 4, 1929, in Khandwa. Before making his way to Mumbai to pursue a career in films, he attended Christian College in Indore from 1946 to 1948.
