Renowned Punjabi Actor Jaswinder Bhalla Passes Away at 65

Chandigarh, Aug 22 (PTI) Renowned Punjabi actor, Jaswinder Bhalla, passed away at a private hospital in Mohali on Friday morning, following a brief illness, as confirmed by a family friend. Bhalla was 65 years old. Bal Mukand Sharma, a close friend, mentioned that Bhalla was admitted to the hospital two days prior after his health deteriorated. Bhalla had been unwell for some time, according to Sharma. His last rites are scheduled to take place in Mohali on Saturday.

Jaswinder Bhalla, a popular comedian and character actor, was celebrated for his roles in Punjabi films such as "Carry on Jatta", "Mahaul Theek Hai", "Gaddi Jandi Eh Challangan Mardi", "Jatt Airways", and "Jatt & Juliet 2". Many political leaders from various parties mourned his passing, acknowledging his significant contributions to public life. Punjab Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann, expressed his grief on X, stating, "The sudden departure of Jaswinder Bhalla Ji from this world is extremely sorrowful. The heart is saddened by the silence of the jingle of Chhankatian. May Waheguru grant him a place at His feet. Chacha Chatra will always reside in our hearts."

Punjab Congress chief, Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, also expressed his condolences, saying, "Deeply saddened by the passing of Jaswinder Bhalla ji. A proud Punjabi voice around the world, his contribution and love for the community will always be remembered. Heartfelt condolences to his family & admirers." The news of his death has left the Punjabi actors and artists community in deep shock.

Bhalla completed his Master of Science from Punjab Agricultural University in Ludhiana, where he later served as a faculty member. He retired in 2020 as a professor and head of the Department of Extension Education. As an actor, Bhalla was known for his satirical comedy and wit in Punjabi cinema. His role as advocate Dhillon in the 2012 film "Carry on Jatta", alongside stars like Gippy Grewal and Mahie Gill, was particularly memorable. His impeccable comic timing and unique catchphrases resonated with audiences.

His son, Pukhraj Bhalla, follows in his father's footsteps and has acted in many Punjabi films.
