Filmmaker Jude Anthany Joseph, known for his acclaimed work "2018," is gearing up to direct "MV Kairali—The Enduring Mystery," a new project under Confluence Media.

As the vessel made its course toward Djibouti en route to Rostock, East Germany, it vanished, triggering waves of grief and confusion, particularly in Kerala, home to 23 of the crew members.

Joseph remarked that the film is a tribute to the lives lost aboard MV Kairali. "MV Kairali, had it not vanished, could have been a monumental testament to Kerala's maritime legacy and pride. But, a few days changed everything - fifty-one lives disappeared, and numerous families faced lifelong distress," he expressed.

"By adapting this story for the screen, I hope to provide some solace to those families and assure them that their loved ones have not been forgotten," he added.

Thomas Joseph emphasized that his book is an attempt to close a chapter filled with trauma, loss, and relentless speculation. As a 15-year-old, the incident profoundly impacted him, resulting in the permanent loss of his father.

"'The Master Mariner' is my effort to bring this incident to a conclusion after 45 years – for myself, for the public, and for the 49 families that cling to the hope of their loved ones' return," he noted.

The film's screenplay will be crafted by Anthany Joseph, in collaboration with American writer James Wright and Josy Joseph, a writer-journalist and the founder of Confluence Media.

Josy Joseph shared that extensive research informed the film's development, with Thomas Joseph's book forming a substantial foundation. "The story of MV Kairali and the far-reaching impact on the families is a call to action for accountability and justice," he asserted, expressing confidence in Jude Anthany Joseph's direction to bring this poignant story to the silver screen.
