Charlie Sheen Returns with Netflix Doc 'aka Charlie Sheen'

Los Angeles, Aug 14 (PTI) Charlie Sheen, famously known for his role in "Two and a Half Men," is poised for a remarkable comeback with a new Netflix documentary titled "aka Charlie Sheen." This two-part series, debuting in September, promises an unfiltered glimpse into the actor's tumultuous past and personal reflections like never before. The documentary will delve into Sheen's own rollercoaster journey while also exploring perspectives from fellow actors and crew members impacted by his actions, as announced by Netflix.

Featuring candid insights from Sheen's former co-stars, friends, and his ex-wife Denise Richards, the series brings together notable names such as Jon Cryer and Chuck Lorre, who famously had public disputes with Sheen. Viewers will also hear from Sean Penn, Chris Tucker, Heidi Fleiss, Brooke Mueller, and Ramon Estevez. Directed by Andrew Renzi, known for his work on documentaries like “Pepsi, Where’s My Jet” and “Untold: Jake Paul the Problem Child,” this series promises a compelling narrative.

Sheen, who has achieved seven years of sobriety, is ready to candidly address the controversies, scandals, and self-imposed troubles that shadowed his career. Netflix promises an immersive experience filled with humor, heartbreak, and brutal honesty as Sheen revisits his most chaotic moments and the lessons they taught him. Initially, it was challenging to convince Sheen to participate, as highlighted in the press release.

Renzi mentioned that Sheen was initially reluctant, stating, "He did not want to make a documentary." However, Renzi saw an opportunity in Sheen's reservations, noting, "Who better to reveal these kinds of things and to talk about these missteps? I find that to be a beautiful arc." Sheen, who appeared in "Spin City," "Being John Malkovich," and "Anger Management," experienced a significant decline during his tenure on "Two and a Half Men."

With a history of drug abuse, Sheen suffered a stroke in 1998 due to an overdose. His marriage to Denise Richards ended in 2005, fueled by his addiction struggles. After his public fallout with "Two and a Half Men" creator Chuck Lorre, Sheen was dismissed, with Ashton Kutcher stepping in to take over his role. The documentary is set to premiere on Netflix on September 10.
