Urmila Matondkar Celebrates 30 Years of 'Rangeela'

New Delhi, Sep 8 (PTI) - Bollywood icon Urmila Matondkar took to social media on Monday to commemorate the 30th anniversary of her iconic film "Rangeela" with a touching note.

Matondkar delighted her fans by sharing an Instagram video of herself, dancing to the hit track "Rangeela Re" from the movie.

Premiering on September 8, 1995, "Rangeela" was directed by Ram Gopal Varma and featured Aamir Khan alongside Matondkar.

The 51-year-old actress expressed that "Rangeela" represents much more than just a film; for her, it's a "grand celebration of life."

"It was never just a film. It was, and still is, a feeling…Woven with intense joy, hope, dreams, ambition, beauty, zest, affection, admiration, love and desire, struggle and triumph, sacrifice, and above all, a grand celebration of life," she started in her heartfelt post.

"Each scene brings to life a spontaneous, joyous smile, carrying us into a world brimming with innocence and delight. Every song transcends being just music—it epitomizes the Navrasa, the nine emotions that form the cornerstone of Indian literature and poetry. A naive girl graces the silver screen, and with her innate charm and purity, wins hearts—ushering audiences through an everlasting journey of beauty, poetry, life, and love," she elaborated.

She concluded, "Thirty years ago today, 'Rangeela' became each one of yours! And I am sure, even today, it holds the magic to take you back to that initial moment—when you laughed, cheered, and fell in love with its enchantment. Thank you for letting me be a part of your lives, for embracing me with so much love, and for placing me in a position that many dare to dream of, yet very few achieve. Your appreciation, your accolades, and your love have been the greatest blessings of my journey. Thank you."

"Rangeela" centered on Matondkar's character, Mili, as she pursued her dreams of becoming a renowned actress. However, the plot thickens as Raj Kamal (Jackie Shroff), a noted actor, and Munna (Khan), her childhood friend, both fall for her.

Celebrated music composer A R Rahman created the memorable soundtrack for the film.
