BTS' Jungkook's 'Seven' faces plagiarism allegations: BigHit Music says these are 'one-sided claims'

BTS’ Jungkook’s ‘Seven’ is facing accusations regarding plagiarism. Composer Yang Joon-young has alleged that ‘Seven’ has borrowed the same scale sequence from Fin.K.L's ‘Time of Mask’ as per a report by South Korean media outlet on August 22, 2023. BigHit Music has released their official statement on the matter.

Soompi quoted BigHit Music’s official statement as, “We would like to inform you that the claims of copyright infringement regarding Jungkook’s Seven are not true.”

The statement also read, "Seven is a song that was made through the collaboration of five foreign composers, and it is a creation that is completely unrelated to the song on a domestic album from 24 years ago like some are claiming. They are one-sided claims that do not meet any criteria such as substantial similarity and principles in determining plagiarism.”

Report says that Yang Joon-young, who is a well-known composer in the K-Pop industry, noticed the similarity between the main melody of Jungkook’s song and his own composition. Yang Joon-young has provided several pieces of evidence to HYBE and requested an investigation into the matter.

Jungkook has been getting a lot of appreciation for his solo ‘Seven’ and has scored several records for it. "Seven" is the third fastest song overall to reach 400 million streams.
