Dave Bautista Joins 'Highlander' Remake as The Kurgan

Los Angeles, Aug 8 (PTI) "Dune" star Dave Bautista is set to take on the role of the antagonist in the highly anticipated remake of the classic Hollywood film "Highlander".

Fronting the project is former Superman star Henry Cavill, under the Amazon MGM’s United Artists banner, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Bautista, famed for his performances in "Blade Runner 2049", "Army of the Dead", and "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery", will join Cavill and Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe in the film.

Bringing his renowned action expertise, "John Wick" director Chad Stahelski will helm this project, working from a script by Michael Finch.

The original "Highlander" movie, released in 1986, featured Christopher Lambert in the role of Connor MacLeod, a Medieval Scottish Highlander who learns of his immortality.

Assisted by a swordsman named Ramirez, portrayed by Sean Connery, the titular Highlander combats other immortals throughout the ages, culminating in a climactic modern-day showdown with the famous line, “there can be only one.”

In this upcoming interpretation, Cavill steps into the shoes of MacLeod, Crowe assumes the role of Ramirez, and Marisa Abela, known for "Industry", secures a notable part.

Bautista will embody The Kurgan, an immortal barbarian who has relentlessly pursued and killed other immortals over centuries to gain their power, a role originally brought to life by Clancy Brown.

This new vision of "Highlander" is produced by Scott Stuber, Nick Nesbitt, Neal H Moritz, along with Stahelski’s 87Eleven Entertainment, Josh Davis of Davis Panzer Productions, and Louise Rosner.
