Akshay Oberoi Stars with Yash in 'Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grownups'

Mumbai, Aug 19 (PTI) Actor Akshay Oberoi, known for his dynamic roles in Hindi cinema, is set to appear alongside Kannada superstar Yash in the eagerly awaited film "Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grownups". He admits to initially being starstruck by Yash, while drawing inspiration from the actor’s work ethic and remarkable humility. “I’ve been lucky to work with another superstar, Hrithik Roshan, before taking on this project with Yash. Yash is a massive star, yet remains grounded, with no pretentious airs. His fan base is vast and passionate, yet he maintains a soft-spoken demeanor. His journey from Mysore, where his father worked as a bus conductor, to superstardom is truly inspiring,” said Oberoi while speaking to PTI.

"Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grownups" is helmed by celebrated director Geetu Mohandas, known for acclaimed films such as “Liar’s Dice” and “Moothon.” The movie is produced by VN Productions and Monster Mind Creations, with a theater release slated for March 19, 2026. Oberoi hopes that both projects, “Toxic” and “Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari,” will resonate with wider audiences.

“Actors are dreamers. I've been in this industry for 15 years, and with each film, I dream of success. Maintaining a positive outlook is crucial because so much in this line of work is beyond our control. The best we can do is focus on our craft. I hope these films connect with mass audiences and showcase my work, much like ‘Fighter’ did. I feel optimistic about these two films,” Akshay Oberoi expressed confidently.

While speaking at a retrospective event celebrating Guru Dutt, a legendary actor-filmmaker, Oberoi shared how artists like Dutt and Balraj Sahni inspired his venture into films. “My father introduced me to Guru Dutt's films when I was just eight. His biography moved me deeply, and I became an ardent admirer,” Oberoi revealed.

He urged younger generations to explore Guru Dutt's iconic works, such as “Pyaasa”, “Chaudhvin Ka Chand”, “Kaagaz Ke Phool”, “Aar Paar”, and “Mr. and Mrs. 55”. Oberoi also praised the initiative taken by NFDC and Ultra for the retrospective on Dutt.

Expressing admiration for Balraj Sahni, Oberoi said, “We don't discuss him much these days, but he was a fantastic actor. Our icons, particularly those who have departed, deserve celebration. Sahni left us prematurely, yet his global impact shouldn't be forgotten,” he emphasized.
