Delhi: mob climbs walls of women's college, harasses students at Miranda House fest

Chaos broke out at the all-women's Miranda House College in Delhi on 16 October as a mob tried to scale the walls and enter the institute, according to reports.

A large crowd had gathered outside the college to attend a Diwali mela. When authorities realised that the premises was filled to capacity, the attendees were asked to leave.

Subsequently, many attendees, primarily men, went "entirely out of control", according to the college's Women's Development Cell. The men started entering restricted areas like classrooms, behaved rudely with college authorities, and invaded students' personal space.

Women students were subjected to harassment, catcalling, and inappropriate advances, according to the Women's Cell.

The college cell also admitted lapses on part of the fest organising committee, saying that there was "inexcusable" lack of foresight, inability to control the damage, and complete absence as chaos unfolded.
