DCW says MCD-run school told 'survivors to be quiet about sexual assault'

Two students were allegedly forced to undress by an unidentified man in a municipal corporation-run school in East Delhi. The students were waiting for their teacher to arrive when the accused entered the classroom and reportedly forced the survivors to undress, according to a statement issued by Delhi Commission for Women(DCW).

The man then proceeded to undress himself, muttering obscenities at one of the students and later also urinated in front of the class, the statement further alleged. When the incident was brought to the attention of the school authorities by the survivors, they were reportedly told to keep quiet and forget about it, DCW added.

The commission has sent notices to Delhi Police and East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) commissioner demanding action against the accused. It has also issued a statement to the school for allegedly hiding the incident.

Delhi Police said they have registered a case under sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and raids are being conducted to arrest the accused. They said a case was registered the same day.

The women's body demanded a copy of the First Information Report (FIR), details of the accused, and probe details from the police. They also asked the police whether they had booked the school authorities under the POCSO Act. It has also summoned the East MCD commissioner in connection with the matter and demanded a detailed action report.

A statement by the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) said that the matter is being investigated and any allegations, lapses or wrongdoing, if recorded, will be probed and appropriate action will be taken against school authorities.
