WHO recommends two new Covid-19 treatments. Here are the details

As the world sees a surge in Omicron cases, the World Health Organization approved two new Covid-19 treatments.

In their recommendation in the British medical journal, the WHO experts said arthritis drug Baricitinib will help in treating severe or critical Covid patients. They suggested that the use of Baricitinib with corticosteroids in severe Covid patients led to better survival rates and reduced need for ventilators.

The second treatment approved by WHO is Sotrovimab for people with non-serious Covid who are at the highest risk of hospitalization, such as the elderly and people with chronic diseases.

Only three other treatments for Covid-19 have received WHO approval, starting with corticosteroids for severely ill patients in September 2020.

The WHO's Covid treatment recommendations are updated regularly based on new data from clinical trials.
