Delhi government's attempt to ease restrictions in the national capital has reportedly been blocked by the Lieutenant Governor. Delhi will continue to observe weekend curfew and other curbs.

LG Anil Baijal said that the question of lifting the weekend curfew would be considered once the Covid situation improves further, as per sources quoted in an NDTV report. He also rejected the AAP government's plea to withdraw the odd-even rule of opening shops in markets.

However, LG Baijal reportedly agreed to reopening of private offices with a cap of 50% attendance.

Health minister Satyendar Jain had cited a decline in cases for the recommendation to ease curbs in the capital.

On January 20, Delhi reported 12,306 new infections, lower than the 13,785 count seen a day earlier. The positivity rate in the national capital also declined from 23.86% on January 19 to 21.48% on January 20. However, the daily death toll went up from 35 on January 19, to 43 a day later.
