India ranks 4th in the number of Startups having an investment over $50 million: Report

Scaleup Report by Startup Genome: India ranks 4th in the world in the number of startups that have received over $50 million of venture capital (VC) investment. The first three countries ranked by the first edition of Startup Genome's Scaleup Report are U.S, China and the UK.

However, the report mentions that India is ahead of the UK in terms of the total VC investments and in the cumulative tech value investment of the startups. According to the report, India has 429 startups having a total venture capital investment of $127 billion and total value of tech investment of $446 billion.

The report further mentioned that Indian startups' 50% or more of the customers come from outside the continent and have the highest scaleup rate. This as the startups design their products for the global markets. However, startups based in large countries like the US have the highest scale rate as they focus their products for the domestic products.

As per the report, Startups with a local connectedness index score of 6 or above achieve a scaleup of 5.1% compared to 3.8% for those with a score of 2 to 4 - a 34% boost.
