Indore (Madhya Pradesh) [India], February 5: The Faculty of Law at Medicaps University, Indore, successfully hosted its 1st Moot Court Competition 2026 from January 30 to February 1, 2026, marking a significant milestone in the university's efforts to strengthen practical legal education and national academic engagement. The three-day national-level competition witnessed the participation of 48 teams from leading private law colleges and National Law Universities (NLUs) across India, with each team comprising three members. A total of 150 law students competed, making the event a vibrant platform for advocacy, legal research, and courtroom practice.
The competition commenced on January 29 with team registrations, reporting, and an orientation session, followed by research desk familiarisation and informal networking among participants. The day concluded with an opening networking session, encouraging inter-institutional interaction and collaboration. The Inaugural Ceremony of the competition was held on 30th January, graced by Shri. Shantanu S. Kemkar, Hon'ble Justice (retd.), High Court of M.P. & Bombay, as the Chief Guest, and Shri. Manoj Dwivedi, Senior Advocate, High Court of M.P., as the Guest of Honour.
On January 31, the competition intensified with Preliminary Rounds I and II, followed by Quarter-Final rounds, where teams demonstrated advanced advocacy skills before senior judges and law firm partners. The rigorous evaluation process tested participants on legal reasoning, articulation, research depth, and courtroom demeanour.
The competition was evaluated by an exceptionally eminent and diverse judging panel comprising more than 50 judges across various rounds, including Senior Advocates and Advocates of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh, Partners and Associates from leading law firms, and distinguished academicians. The Final Rounds were judged by Senior Advocate of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh, Adv. Ajay Bagadia, Senior Central Government Standing Counsel Adv. Seema Sharma, and Adv. Sudeep Bhargava, Deputy Advocate General, State of Madhya Pradesh, lending the proceedings the stature of a full-fledged High Court environment.
The competition concluded on February 1 with the Semi-Final and Final Rounds, culminating in the Valedictory and Prize Distribution Ceremony. Eminent judges and senior advocates addressed the participants, emphasising the importance of ethical advocacy, professional discipline, and continuous learning in the legal profession.

The Valedictory Session featured an esteemed panel of judges comprising Adv. Seema Sharma, Senior Central Government Standing Counsel; Adv. Sudeep Bhargava, Deputy Advocate General, State of M.P.; and Adv. Ajay Bagadia, Senior Advocate, High Court of M.P.
While speaking on this initiative, Prof. (Dr.) Dilip Kumar Patnaik, Vice Chancellor, Medicaps University, Indore, remarked: "Experiential legal education lies at the heart of building future-ready legal professionals. Platforms such as this National Moot Court Competition enable students to bridge theory with practice, engage with real-world legal challenges, and develop the confidence and competence required for the profession. The 1st National Moot Court Competition positions the Faculty of Law, Medicaps University, Indore, as an emerging national hub for mooting and experiential legal education. As the university's first national-level moot court competition, the event establishes a flagship academic platform that strengthens Medicaps' visibility and reputation within the legal education ecosystem.
- Winners: Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur - ₹25,000, Trophy, Certificate of Merit, and three one-year complimentary SCC Online Web Edition subscriptions
- Runner-Up: Christ (Deemed to be) University, Ghaziabad - ₹15,000, Trophy, Certificate of Merit, and one-month SCC Online Web Edition access
- Best Memorial: S.S. Khanna Degree College, Allahabad - ₹5,000, Trophy, Certificate of Merit, and one-month SCC Online Web Edition access
- Best Researcher: Latasha Garg, NMIMS Jaipur - ₹5,000, Trophy, Certificate of Merit, and one-month SCC Online Web Edition access
- Best Speaker: Manya Mishra, Christ (Deemed to be) University, Ghaziabad - ₹5,000, Trophy, Certificate of Merit, and one-month SCC Online Web Edition access
Prizes worth a total of ₹2 lakhs were awarded. All registered participants received a one-month complimentary SCC Online Web Edition access. The next edition of the competition is tentatively scheduled for the last week of January.
Beyond competition, the event generated opportunities for mentorship, networking, and professional exposure, while creating rich content for media and social platforms through courtroom proceedings, judge interactions, student advocacy moments, and award ceremonies. The success of the competition lays the foundation for building a legacy event that can grow annually and gain recognition among law schools nationwide.
