Israel- Hamas war: Israel looks to hire 1 lakh Indians to replace Palestinian workers

Amidst the Israel-Hamas war, Israel has launched a program to employ up to one lakh Indian workers in the construction sector. This to replace the 90,000 Palestinian workers whose work permits were revoked, as per a report by VOA.

The decision comes in the backdrop of diplomatic efforts, including a call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, expressing solidarity against terrorism and reaffirming India's support for Israel.

The influx of Indian workers into Israel's job market is expected to significantly boost remittances back to India, thereby enhancing the financial well-being of those employed abroad.

Israel's latest policy aligns with India's recent United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) vote abstention, which urged an immediate end to the Israel-Hamas conflict. India's stance underscores the deepening alliance between the two nations, which has been flourishing since the establishment of formal diplomatic ties in 1992.

The Indo-Israeli partnership has particularly thrived in the realm of trade, with India becoming a major importer of Israeli defence articles. Bilateral relations have been reinforced by high-level visits, including Prime Minister Modi's historic trip to Israel in 2017, marking the first-ever visit by an Indian head of state. This move not only strengthens economic ties but also underscores the enduring friendship between the two nations.
