IMF's Gita Gopinath praises India's G20 Summit message, PM Modi responds

International Monetary Fund's deputy director Gita Gopinath on Saturday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his successful hosting of the two-day G20 Summit in India. She shared a photo with PM Modi on her official social media platform, formerly known as Twitter.

In her post, Gopinath praised Prime Minister Modi for his leadership during the G20 Summit and highlighted the resonance of India's message: "one earth, one family, one future" among all the delegates. She stated, "Congratulations Prime Minister @narendramodi on presiding over such a successful @g20org."

In response, Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude for her kind words and emphasized that hosting the G20 Summit was an honor. He credited the success of the event to the collective spirit of unity and progress.

Gopinath also had the opportunity to meet with President Droupadi Murmu at the G20 venue, expressing her deep admiration for President Murmu's inspiring life story in another social media post.

On the first day of the G20 Summit, Modi hosted leaders from more than 30 countries and organizations, including US President Joe Biden and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. The event took place at the Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre and witnessed significant developments, such as the unanimous agreement on the Delhi Declaration, the formal inclusion of the African Union into the group, the establishment of a biofuel alliance, and the announcement of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IECC EC).

Following the day's proceedings, President Murmu hosted a dinner for the heads of state of the G20 group, attended by approximately 400 guests.

India had assumed the G20 presidency on December 1 of the previous year and had organized approximately 200 meetings in 60 cities across the country. The 18th G20 Summit held in New Delhi serves as the culmination of all the G20 processes and meetings conducted throughout the year, involving ministers, senior officials, and civil societies.
