Apple assembles $14 billion worth iPhones in India: Report

In a milestone achievement, Apple has assembled $14 billion worth of iPhones in India in fiscal 2024, reported Bloomberg News. As per the report, 14% or 1 out of 7 of its marquee devices are made from India.

Among the iPhone suppliers, Foxconn assembled nearly 67% of the iPhones followed by Pegatron which made 17% and the remaining 16% was assembled by Wistron which was taken over by the Tata Group last year.

Apple has been looking to expand its supply chain out of China as tensions between China and US continues.

As per Reuters, Pegatron is in advanced talks to hand over control of its only iPhone manufacturing facility, located near Chennai in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, to the Tata Group. Tata group is also building another plant in Hosur in Tamil Nadu and Pegatron is likely to be its joint venture partner.

Meanwhile, the expansion of Apple ecosystem in India which is aided by the Government's Production Linked Incentive scheme for Smartphones has lead to a the iphone maker emerging as a top job creator. Since the inception of the PLI scheme in August 2021 for smartphones, Apple has created over 1.5 lakh jobs in India
