Should you buy a house, or should you rent?
That's a question which has triggered many debates across social media in recent years.
While conventional wisdom has favoured investing in realty, new age content creators such as Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath have been vociferous in their opposition to the idea.
So, it's not surprising that many of his followers were shocked when on the latest episode of his podcast WTF, Kamath revealed that he has purchased a house.
In fact, some netizens accused him of taking a u-turn and misleading others, while others called it a lesson for everyone who listened to Kamath.

Zerodha CEO and CO-founder Nithin Kamath in a post in X has noted that SEBI's transparent pricing move will have significant impact on brokers, traders, and investors. In a Circular, the Indian market regulator SEBI has mandated all the market infrastructure institutions including the stock exchanges to be "true to the label" in how they levy charges
Kamath in the post noted that this instruction could make brokers across industry tweak their pricing.

<h3>Brokerages may tweak prices</h3>
Usually, the stock exchanges charge brokers a transaction fee based on the total turnover they contribute in a month. The transaction fee is inversely proportional to the turnover. By this, higher the turnover, lower the transaction fees.
Brokers receive a rebate which is the difference between what the brokers charge the customer and what the exchange charges the broker at the end of the month.&nbsp;
Nithin Kamath in the post in X stated that the rebates account for 10% of Zerodha's revenues, while this accounts for 10-50% for other brokers across the industry. He further went on to say that with SEBI's new circular, brokers will no longer earn these rebates.
Kamath reasoned that the zerodha was able to offer free equity delivery trades because the F&amp;O trading revenues were subsiding equity delivery investors. However, he predicts that this could now change as Zerodha may have to introduce a brokerage fee for equity delivery investments, which is currently free, or/and increase F&amp;O brokerage.
"We were one of the last remaining brokers that offered free equity delivery trades. We could do this because F&amp;O trading revenues were subsiding equity delivery investors. With the new circular, we will, in all likelihood, have to let go of the zero brokerage structure and/or increase brokerage for F&amp;O trades," Kamath said in the post

Another technical glitch has hit Zerodha, as many users of its trading app Kite complain of frozen screens and other issues.&nbsp;
Many users took to social media platform X and said that Zerodha&rsquo;s broking platform was completely frozen, causing them issues for a brief period. Meanwhile, as per media reports, Zerodha has started working again after the outage.
<h3>Zerodha down again</h3>
This is second outage in just 15 days. Earlier this month, Zerodha faced a technical glitch when the Indian stock market benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty 50, touched record high levels on June 3 after Lok Sabha elections exit polls 2024 were announced.
One User wrote, &ldquo;Zerodha Hang!!! We have already switched To another Platform. Too Many problems in #Zerodha." Meanwhile, another user posted a screenshot of the error in his trading app and captioned "Too many problems in Zerodha App".

In a post on X, Zerodha chief executive officer Nithin Kamath has revealed that equity investors who use Zerodha have collectively realised profits worth Rs 50,000 crore over the past four years and are currently sitting on unrealised profits worth Rs 1 lakh crore.
<h3>Profits earned</h3>
Nithin Kamath further added that the Rs 1 lakh crore in unrealised profits is on an AUM of Rs 4.5 lakh crore. Most of this AUM has been accumulated within the last four years.
"It's unreal how much our markets have expanded post-COVID. Zerodha customers now hold around Rs 4.5 lakh crores worth of assets in their demat accounts", said Nithin Kamath.

As per Moneycontrol, Zerodha currently has over 1.3 crore crore clients which contribute to over 15% of all retail order volumes in India daily. In April Zerodha's client base reached 7.4 million users, recording a 1.5% month-on-month increase. However, its market share saw a minor decline, dropping by 20 basis points to 17.7%.
Meanwhile, as per Motilal Oswal Financial Services, the total number of demat accounts in India surged to 154 million during the same period. However, the number of new account additions remained stable at 3.1 million, consistent with the average monthly additions throughout the fiscal year.

Zerodha's co-founder Nikhil Kamath's old video in which he has backed inheritace tax and has emphasised on the need for wealth redistribution when assets are passed down from one generation to the next has gone viral. In a conversation with Mint in January 2022, he said that when there is wealth transfer a filter has to be applied so that a part of it can be redistributed.
"When predicated wealth transfers from one generation to another, there has to be a filter so that a part of it can be redistributed. There is plenty of precedence to inheritance tax," Kamath said in a conversation with Mint
<h3>Controversy over inheritance Tax</h3>
This comes after Chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress, Sam Pitroda's remark on the inheritance tax in the US stirred controversy. Pitroda, speaking from Chicago, highlighted the absence of an inheritance tax in India and advocated for policies that promote wealth redistribution. He further gave US inheritance tax, where a significant portion of an individual's wealth is taxed upon inheritance as an example.
"In America, there is an inheritance tax...It says you in your generation made wealth and you are leaving now, you must leave your wealth for the public," Pitroda said. He also emphasised the importance of policies that benefit the public rather than solely benefiting the super-rich.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticised the Congress party over Pitroda's comments, accusing them of having "dangerous intentions" to seize assets and rights from the people.

BSE Ltd has recently revived its derivatives segment by bringing back the Sensex and Bankex futures and options (F&amp;O) contracts with reduced lot sizes and different expiry dates

India's leading stock brokerage app, Zerodha faced issues with BSE- F&amp;O segment on Friday. Many app users on twitter said that they were unable to exit their Sensex option trades on the low-cost brokerage Zerodha.&nbsp;
In response to that Zerodha responded and said happened due to "issue with the internet service providers (ISPs)".
It is to be noted that Sensex options expire on Friday. "Due to an issue with the internet service providers (ISPs), the orders of some of our users in the BFO segment were affected. Trading in the other segments was unaffected. We are working on updating the status of the affected orders. We apologize for the inconvenience caused," said Zerodha on Twitter. BFO in Zerodha refers to BSE - F&amp;O.&nbsp;
In an update, at around 3:30 pm, the brokerage said that the issue was resolved. However, many traders continued to tweet out complaints saying that due to the issue their money was stuck and that they faced losses.&nbsp;
Sensex tanks 505 points, Nifty ends lower at 19,330 on Friday
Benchmark stock indices Sensex declined by 505 points at close while Nifty settled lower at the 19,330 level due to profit-taking in financial, IT and oil shares after a record-breaking run and weak global trends.
The 30-share BSE Sensex fell sharply by 505.19 points or 0.77 per cent to close at 65,280.45 points as 25 of its constituents ended in red and five in green. The barometer moved between 65,175.74 and 65,898.98 during the day.
Ending its eight-day winning streak, the broader Nifty of the National Stock Exchange declined by 165.50 or 0.85 per cent to settle at 19,331.80. As many as 44 Nifty shares declined while six gained.

Zerodha's founder and CEO Nithin Kamath, took to twitter to announce the tie-up. In a tweet he said, "While awaiting final approval of our AMC (mutual fund), we asked if we should build it ourselves or collaborate. Given the 6+ years of experience that @smallcaseHQ has in building investment products, it made perfect sense to create a joint venture to build the AMC".
In a separate tweet he said the upcoming AMC will be a joint venture between Zerodha and smallcase and will use learnings and shared values from both companies to build an enduring fund house.
As per Economic Times, Kamath said smallcase, which hosts baskets of stocks or ETFs on its platform, will help Zerodha build simple low-cost passive mutual fund products. Both are Bengaluru-based startups, and Smallcase counts Zerodha as one of its investors.
Nithin Kamath also exuded confidence on smallcase saying, smallcase has been successful in helping millions of demat account holders build a healthy long-term portfolio, and there's immense potential to bring the same principles of simplicity and transparency to mutual funds to bring in a new segment of investors.
Zerodha had already received in-principal approval from SEBI on its mutual fund application in September 2021.&nbsp;

In an attempt to motivate its employees to be fit, Zerodha's CEO Nithin Kamath has set a challenge with a Rs 10 lakh lucky draw.
In the latest initiative, the <a href="https://www.editorji.com/story/salary-bonus-for-health-targets-not-sales-targets-at-zerodha-10-lakh-lottery-for-fit-employees-1630297266374">Zerodha</a> employees would be given an option to set a daily activity goal on the company's fitness tracker. The CEO said, anyone meeting whatever goal set on 90 per cent of the days over the next year gets one month&rsquo;s salary as a bonus and one participant might even win Rs 10 lakhs.
In a series of tweets, Kamath, who himself is a fitness freak, said that at Zerodha who has a body mass index (BMI) of less than 25 will get half a month's pay as a bonus.&nbsp;&nbsp;
This is not the first time Zerodha founder Kamath has announced such a health initiative for his company&rsquo;s staff.
Last year also Kamath announced a similar health challenge for employees. Kamath had said that the company was starting a '12-month get -healthy goal' programme', encouraging people to prioritise health amid the pandemic.

Survey that was conducted in October 2021 revealed that 29% of citizens share their ATM or debit card pin details with close family members, while 4% share it with their domestic and office staff.
Not only this, online brokerage platform, Zerodha also warns users regarding the hacking incidents. Posting it on twitter, Zerodha said frauders are posing as employees are calling people and asking for sensitive information like PAN, Bank details etc.
