Wayanad has been witnessing intense protests for over a week following back-to-back deaths of two local men due to the attacks by wild elephants.

A protest march taken out by the activists of Youth Congress here alleging failure of the state government in addressing human-animal conflict turned violent on Wednesday.
Police had to resort to lathi charge and water cannons to disperse the angry agitators who allegedly tried to jump barricades placed near the district collectorate.
The Youth Congress (YC) carried out the protest march a day after the Congress-led UDF boycotted an all-party meeting convened by a ministerial delegation here demanding the resignation of Forest Minister A K Saseendran.
Though the protest march began on a peaceful note, it turned violent after the YC workers tried to jump the police barricade.
Police resorted to water cannons to disperse the protesters who allegedly pelted stones at the cops later.
In a subsequent lathi charge, some YC activists and police personnel suffered injuries.
The agitators also squatted on the road and staged a sit-in protest later raising slogans against the state government.

A ministerial delegation, which visited here yesterday on directions of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, discussed the remedial proposals and took decisions during a meeting attended by the local people's representatives and officials The state government also pledged to deploy additional rapid response teams and promised to cover treatment expenses for individuals injured in wild animal attacks here, following protests demanding a permanent resolution to frequent human-wildlife conflicts.
Congress leader and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi and Governor Arif Mohammed Khan had visited the family members of those who were killed in animal attacks.

Hours after Delhi Police questioned Srinivas BV on allegations linked to Covid relief material distribution, the Indian Youth Congress chief said he will continue the relief as he has nothing to hide.
A team of Crime Branch officials raided the headquarters of the Indian Youth Congress and questioned Srinivas&nbsp;for 20 minutes, on&nbsp;the source of oxygen cylinders and other life-saving drugs being distributed by his volunteers in Delhi and the NCR region. The raid came after a PIL filed in Delhi High Court by 12 people sought action against hoarding of oxygen and other life-saving drugs.&nbsp;
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also tweeted his support to the Indian Youth Congress. The Congress maintains, it is nothing but intimidation of their workers who are helping out those in need at this time of the pandemic. The party added that the govt is under the impression that because of their work, the govt's&nbsp;inefficiency is being exposed.

The Indian Youth Congress on Monday pitched for Rahul Gandhi's return as the Congress chief. The party's youth wing said saying his leadership will strengthen the organisation and energise party workers. The Youth Congress passed a resolution in this regard at the meeting of its national executive in New Delhi.&nbsp;The resolution comes at a time when a section of party leaders led by Ghulam Nabi Azad have been demanding internal elections and a full-time Congress president.

The Indian Youth Congress on Monday pitched for <a href="https://www.editorji.com/story/comical-bjp-mocks-rahul-gandhi-for-saying-cong-never-captured-institutions-1614773768845" target="_blank" >Rahul Gandhi's</a> return as the Congress chief. The party's youth wong said saying his leadership will strengthen the organisation and energise party workers.
The Youth Congress passed a resolution in this regard at the meeting of its national executive in New Delhi.
"In view of the prevailing situation in our country, the National Executive of Indian Youth Congress jointly passes a resolution that Rahul Gandhi should be appointed as the President of the Indian National Congress," the resolution said.
The resolution comes at a time when a section of party leaders led by Ghulam Nabi Azad have been demanding internal elections and a full-time Congress president.

Sitting on a dharna for the first time against the farm laws, Punjab Chief Minister said his government would be moving the Supreme Court in spite of a go ahead by the President on the farm bills. Calling it the 'draconian' laws, CM Amarinder Singh slammed the Centre's farm bills and called them&nbsp;anti-national. Pointing out how the bread and butter of the farmers has been snatched away, the Punjab CM said it made it easy for organisations like ISI to put guns and grenades in the hands of these people who are furious. He accused the central government of snatching the rights of states. Captain went on to defend the actions of the Youth Congress for burning a tractor in front of the India Gate and asked why should it bother anyone if i burnt my own tractor. The Chief Minister went on to emphasise the need for everyone to take the stand with the farmers and fight the central government together.

Nine expelled Congress leaders have written to party president Sonia Gandhi, asking her to "rise above the affinity for the family " and run the organisation by establishing mutual trust and restoring the constitutional and democratic values. The letter from the UP veterans comes days after 23 senior Congress leaders wrote to Gandhi, saying uncertainty over the party leadership has "demoralised Congress workers". In the letter, the nine Congress leaders, including former MP Santosh Singh and former minister Satyadev Tripathi, have urged Gandhi to "restore the expression of thoughts, constitutional and democratic values, and run the organisation by establishing communication and mutual trust".

Lucknow, PTI: Nine expelled Congress leaders have written to party president Sonia Gandhi, asking her to "rise above the affinity for the family (parivaar ke moh)" and run the organisation by establishing mutual trust and restoring the constitutional and democratic values.
The letter from the UP veterans comes days after 23 senior Congress leaders wrote to Gandhi, saying uncertainty over the party leadership has "demoralised Congress workers". They also said over-centralisation and micro-management have always proven counter-productive.
In the letter dated September 2 and addressed to Gandhi, the nine Congress leaders, including former MP Santosh Singh and former minister Satyadev Tripathi, said Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi built the Congress and the country with democratic values.
But it's ironical that for sometime, the way in which the party is being run, there is confusion ("asmanjas") and depression ("avsaad") among the ordinary Congress worker, they added.
"At a time, when the country's democratic values and social fabric is lying scattered, the need of the country is that Congress remain alive, dynamic and strong. You please rise above the affinity for the family, and as per traditions, restore the expression of thoughts, constitutional and democratic values, and run the organisation by establishing communication and mutual trust," the leaders urged Gandhi.
"If you deviate from your responsibility, then Congress will become a thing of the past," they said. "Today, the Congress is facing uncertainty, indecisiveness, lack of communication, and lack of expression of thoughts, and is passing through a difficult phase of existential crisis." They also said the "height of insensitivity" can be gauged from the fact that the party president does not know about the incidents taking place in the organisation or is keeping the eyes shut "despite knowing everything".
Referring to their expulsion, the leaders said in the letter, "It is almost one year (since expulsion), but despite requests we were not given time by the (state unit of the) party. The party's central disciplinary committee is also not listening to anything. It seems the Congress office is locked." They claimed the disciplinary committee of the party's UP unit cannot expel them since they are members of the AICC.
Singh and Tripathi were among the 10 senior leaders who were expelled from the primary membership of the Congress on November 24 last year for six years for allegedly tarnishing the party's image and opposing its leadership's decisions at public forums.
The other expelled leaders who signed the letter are Siraj Mehdi (former MLC), Bhoodhar Narayan Mishra (former MLA), Vinod Chaudhary (former MLA), Nek Chandra Pandey (former MLA), Swayam Prakash Goswami (former chairman of Youth Congress), Rajendra Singh Solanki and Sanjeev Singh.
