The process of the landfall of cyclone Yaas commenced around 9 am on Wednesday. The IMD said in its latest observation that the landfall process will be complete by noon.
The states of West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand are on high alert with the commencement of the landfall process of Cyclone Yaas, which intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm on its course over the Bay of Bengal.
Heavy rainfall and strong winds hit the Odisha and Bengal coasts as the storm moved towards the coast.
Water from the sea flooded the residential areas in Dhamra of Bhadrak district in Odisha. In West Bengal, sea water has flooded areas along New Digha Sea Beach in East Midnapore.

Heavy rainfall and strong winds battered Odisha and Bengal coasts as the storm moved towards the coast.
Water from the sea flooded the residential areas in Dhamra of Bhadrak district in Odisha.
Rising river water levels inundated large parts of West Bengal's coastal districts of Purba Medinipur and South 24 Parganas on Wednesday. Water entered the Haldia port in East Midnapore district due to the impact of Cyclone Yaas.
Sea waves were seen touching coconut tree-tops and cars floating in floodwaters.
