The decision to exempt six protesting grapplers from Asian Games and World Championships trials has not been welcomed by the wrestling fraternity.

The top coaches of the country on Thursday informed the IOA ad-hoc panel, running the WFI, that the decision to exempt six protesting grapplers from Asian Games and World Championships trials has not gone down well with the wrestling fraternity.
The ad-hoc panel head Bhupender Singh Bajwa, in an informal meeting held in Meerut, heard views from national freestyle coach Jagmander Singh, national Greco-Roman coach Hargobind Singh and national women's coach Virender Singh Dahiya.
"The three coaches told Mr Bajwa that there is aguish among established as well as upcoming wrestlers. People who run Akhadas and the sport practitioners are angry at this unfair and biased decision," an IOA source told PTI.
"No decision was taken but Mr Bajwa told them that the panel will look into it," the source added.
Bajwa had written, on June 16, to Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, Satyawart Kadian, Jitender Kinha and Sangeeta Phogat that they will compete against the winners of the Asian Games and World Championships trial winners in August.
The wrestlers had claimed that they did not seek exemption but asked for only additional time for preparation.
The coaches also discussed the team composition for the upcoming World Cadet Championship, junior and U15 international tournaments.
"It was also discussed that the National camp for both men and women will begin after the Asian Games trials. The men's camp will be held as usual at the SAI centre in Bahalgarh while the women's camp could be held either in Delhi or Patiala," the source said.
A final date for Asian Games and World Championships trials will be communicated soon.
"The panel now has to decide if the exemption given to six wrestlers should be withdrawn or not," added the source.
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is awaiting a reply from Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), which was approached for July 15 deadline extension. All participating nations have to submit entries by name to the organisers by July 15.
If OCA accepts the request, then the panel can conduct one trial for all wrestlers in August and it will put an end to controversy that erupted due to exemption given to six wrestlers.
If OCA rejects the request, then the IOA will not have any option but to conduct trials before July 15. Four of the six protesting wrestlers will not be able compete in the trials then as they are set to leave for Kyrgyzstan and Hungary training tours in the first week of July.&nbsp;

BJP MP Brijbhushan Sharan Singh once again reiterated that he'll hang himself if he's found guilty in the sexual harassment probe by the Delhi Police.&nbsp;
Addressing the media, Brijbhushan said, "First they (protesting wrestlers) had some other demand &amp; later they demanded something else. They are changing their demands and language continuously. I had said that if even one case against me gets proven, I will hang myself...I stand by my statement."
The former Wrestling Federation of India chief said that he's not worried about what others have to say about him because he knows he's innocent. He also stated that the Delhi Police investigation is the only thing that matters to him, not the opinion of those who have already deemed him guilty of a crime he has not committed.

With the wrestlers' protest now in it's 25th day, Bajrang Punia questioned the lack of action against former WFI Chief Brijbhushan Sharan Singh till date.

More than 24 days have passed since the wrestlers returned to Jantar Mantar, and the grapplers are aghast at the lack of action against former WFI Chief Brijbhushan Sharan Singh.
Questioning why the BJP MP is still free, Olympic bronze medallist Bajrang Punia said, "We want the police to act quickly. Under POCSO act, Brijbhushan should have been taken under custody but clearly, the law is different for those in power."
Bajrang also voiced his support for the IOA's ad-hoc committee that's taken over the affairs of WFI.&nbsp;
Speaking on the ongoing U-17 trials, Bajrang said, "We have no problems with IOA ad-hoc committees conducting trials, we only had a problem with former WFI chief Brijbhushan Sharan Singh doing it."
Bajrang also confirmed that the protesting wrestlers won't be able to take part in any trials till their agitation ends and that they have had no contact from Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, who the 23-year-old said is only doing the talking on social media.
Requesting PM Modi &amp; Home Minister Amit Shah for support, Bajrang said the wrestlers will write letters to them, and that they have already written letters demanding support from the female MPs.

Coming down heavily on the aggrieved wrestlers, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha on Thursday said the grapplers protesting on the streets amounts to indiscipline and is tarnishing the country's image.
Decorated wrestlers Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia and Sakshi malik are the three central characters in the renewed protests against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who has been accused of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation by the grapplers.

Oversight Committee member Radhica Sreeman has vehemently denied fellow panel member Babita Phogat's claims that she snatched the final report on sexual harassment allegations against WFI chief Brijbhushan Sharan Singh from her before she could read the findings.
Babita, who was included in the government's probe panel to investigate the allegations on the insistence of protesting wrestlers, alleged that she had some objections but Radhica did not let her read the report in full. <a href="https://www.editorji.com/sports-news/others-sports/watch-wrestlers-vs-wfi-sakshi-malik-makes-serious-revelation-on-oversight-committee-report-1682427375029">Wrestler Sakshi Malik also echoed Babita's claims during an address to the press</a> on Tuesday.

"Why will I do that? She read the report 4-5 times and agreed to the findings. This is a baseless charge. On the eve of Holi, all the members sat and whatever was being drafted, based on the hearings, Babita was explained each and every word and she was satisfied," she said.
Radhica also said that all members of the committee were requested to assemble at SAI headquarters on April 4 for the signing of the report, but Babita did not turn up.
The panel submitted its report on April 5 but the government has not yet made public its findings.
However, according to PTI, the probe panel had given Brijbhushan a clean chit with a 5-1 verdict.

So, who really is Brijbhushan Singh?
He has been the President of the Wrestling Federation for 11 years. A 6-time Member of Parliament, Brijbhushan currently is the elected representative from the Kaiserganj Lok Sabha constituency.
Having joined student politics in the 1980s, Singh fought his first election in 1991. While he has been a BJP MP for 5 of his 6 terms, in 2009 he won his Lok Sabha seat from a Samajwadi party ticket.
A seasoned politician, the sexual harassment allegations against him add to a long list of misdeeds he's been accused of.

The committee formed by the Indian Olympic Association to probe sexual abuse allegations against sidelined WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is yet to submit its report and IOA president P T Usha said it is taking time since &ldquo;it is a sensitive issue&rdquo;.
&ldquo;It (report) is not finalised, it is going on. We have met the players (wrestlers). The (IOA) committee will finalise and give the report to the IOA later." PT Usha told PTI.
&ldquo;It is a sensitive issue and it has to be done in a good way. Very soon we will do that,&rdquo; she said when asked if there is any deadline for submitting the report.
The IOA had on January 20 formed a seven-member committee headed by legendary boxer MC Mary Kom to investigate the allegations of sexual harassment against the WFI president by some of the country&rsquo;s top wrestlers.
Singh had appeared before the oversight committee of the government on February 28 and had outrightly rejected all the charges.

Eight Indian wrestlers, including Vinesh Phogat &amp; Bajrang Punia, have pulled out of the upcoming Zagreb Open, stating they are not ready for the competition.
Apart from Vinesh &amp; Bajrang, Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Ravi Dahiya, world championship medallist Deepak Punia &amp; talented youngster Anshu Malik, have all decided not to participate.
The wrestlers during their 3-day protest had said that they will not compete in any tournament till the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) is disbanded and its chief Brijbhushan Sharan Singh sacked.
They communicated their decision about non-participation on the day of the team announcement.
A Sports Authority of India official told PTI that the reason they have given is they are not feeling 100 percent. The source further said that their decision to pull out is not going to be appreciated.

The government is unhappy with the behaviour of the wrestlers after they openly expressed their disappointment over the formation of the oversight committee, Sports Ministry sources said. &nbsp; The source told PTI that the ministry has no plans to reconstitute the 5 member oversight committee which will probe the allegations against WFI chief Brij Bhushan Singh and overlook the day-to-day activity of WFI.
As per reports, the protesting wrestlers consider the London Olympics bronze medallist Yogeshwar Dutt, one of the members of the committee, close to the WFI president.
Wrestler Bajrang Punia, however, later clarified that while the grapplers wanted a member of their choice on the committee, they don't have an issue with Yogeshwar. They expected to be consulted before the members were finalised, he added.

The fresh offensive from grapplers Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik hasn&rsquo;t gone down well with the Sports Ministry, given three of the five member picks of the oversight committee were based on wrestlers' suggestions.
According to a Times of India report, Ministry sources claim that during the first round of discussions with Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, wrestlers themselves suggested the names of Mary Kom, SAI's former executive director (teams) Radhica Sreeman and ex-TOPS CEO Rajesh Rajagopalan.
The report further states that the wrestlers weren't happy with the choice of London Olympics Bronze medallist Yogeshwar Dutt, who is also part of the five-member Oversight Committee.

The protesting wrestlers all posted identical tweets, stating that despite the assurances from the government, they were never consulted before the oversight committee was picked. They also tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah &amp; Sports Minister Anurag Thakur in their tweet.
Apart from MC Mary Kom, the committee includes former Olympic medallist Yogeshwar Dutt, former Badminton player and Mission Olympic Cell member Trupti Murgunde, ex-TOPS CEO Rajagopalan and former SAI Executive Director Radhica Sreeman.
