India's Wholesale price inflation increased to 0.26%, according to the data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Thursday. The inflation rate has returned to positive territory after 7 months. The last time the inflation was positive at 1.34% in March.
The WPI was at its lowest in October at -0.52%.&nbsp;
<h3>Rise in Inflation&nbsp;</h3>
The rise in inflation was led by food inflation, the category rising steeply by 4.69% in November as compared to 1.07% in October and 1.88% in September.&nbsp;
"Positive rate of inflation in November 2023 is primarily due to increase in prices of food articles, minerals, machinery &amp; equipment, computer, electronics &amp; optical products, motor vehicles, other transport equipment and other manufacturing etc," the ministry said in the announcement.

In the primary articles, the index rose by 1.30%. It was followed by a 0.78% rise in the index for fuel and power, and 0.07% in manufactured products.
In November, official data revealed that retail inflation climbed to a three-month high of 5.55%, primarily propelled by surging food prices. This surge followed October's inflation rate of 4.87%, marking a consecutive decline from August's peak of 6.83%.

According to government data released on Monday, the Wholesale Price Index (WPI)-based inflation fell to a 29-month low of 1.34% in March 2023 as the cost of essential metals and food items fell. This is the 10th month in a row that WPI-based inflation has decreased.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Commerce &amp; Industry, the decline in the rate of inflation in March 2023 was primarily caused by lower prices for basic metals, food products, textiles, non-food items, minerals, rubber &amp; plastic products, crude oil &amp; natural gas, and paper and paper products.
Before products are sold at retail, their entire price is tracked by a wholesale pricing index (WPI).
India's CPI-based retail inflation also decreased in March to a 16-month low of 5.66% as food expenses decreased due to decreasing vegetable costs, which were partially offset by rising grain prices.

The wholesale price-based inflation eased for the eight consecutive month to 4.73 per cent in January on easing prices of manufactured items, fuel and power.
The wholesale price-index (WPI) based inflation rate was 4.95 per cent in December 2022 and 13.68 per cent in January 2022.
Inflation in food articles, however, rose to 2.38 per cent in January, from (-) 1.25 per cent in December, 2022.
"Decline in the rate of inflation in January, 2023 is primarily contributed by mineral oils, chemicals &amp; chemical products, textiles, crude petroleum &amp; natural gas, textiles, and food products," the Commerce and Industry Ministry said on Tuesday.
Inflation in pulses was 2.41 per cent, while in vegetables was (-) 26.48 per cent. Inflation in oil seeds was (-) 4.22 per cent in January, 2023.
Fuel and power basket inflation eased to 15.15 per cent, from 18.09 per cent in December 2022. In Manufactured products it was 2.99 per cent, against 3.37 per cent in December, 2022.
The deceleration in WPI comes in contrast to the retail inflation data released on Monday which showed consumer price index (CPI) or retail inflation rose to 6.52 per cent in January, from 5.72 per cent in December, 2022.
