India on its way to go trans fat free by 2022: Harsh Vardhan

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan&nbsp;on Friday announced that India is on its way to eliminate trans fats from its supply chain completely by 2022.&nbsp;
Speaking at a FSSAI&nbsp;event to commemorate World Food Day, Vardhan&nbsp;said, 'Trans fat is a modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVD). And eliminating CVD risk factor is especially relevant during Covid-19.'&nbsp;
A food toxin present in partially hydrogenated vegetable oils (PHVOs) (e.g. vanaspati, shortening, margarine, etc.), baked and fried foods, trans fat is a major contributor to the rise in non-communicable diseases in India.
