Does your co-worker always complain about how much they are piled up with their work? Well, there's a new term for them known as stress-bragging or busy bragging.
<h3>What is Busy bragging?&nbsp;</h3>
Busy bragging is the phenomenon where your colleagues continuously complain or brag about being preoccupied with their work schedule or tasks. A study published in the journal Personnel Psychology found that employees who frequently boast about their stress levels are perceived as less competent and less likable by their colleagues. However, recent research reveals that this behaviour might be more damaging than beneficial.
The research, led by Jessica Rodell, a management professor at the University of Georgia, sought to examine the impact of stress-bragging in the workplace. Rodell and her team conducted an experiment involving 360 participants who were asked to assess statements from hypothetical colleagues returning from a conference. Some colleagues expressed enjoyment, while others, known as busy braggers, complained about how the conference added to their already overwhelming workload.
"This is a behaviour we've all seen, and we all might be guilty of at some point," said Rodell. "When I was wondering about why people do this, I thought maybe we are talking about our stress because we want to prove we're good enough. We found out that often backfires."
"People are harming themselves by doing this thing they think is going to make them look better to their colleagues," Rodell said.

Forget 'quiet quitting' and 'quiet firing' now young employees are opting for 'quiet vacationing'. This new workplace trend is the practice of young professionals, particularly millennials, taking private time off from work without formally seeking paid time off.
<h3>What is quiet vacationing?</h3>
A report by Harris Poll's 2024 Out of Office Culture, which surveyed 1,170 employed adults aged 18 and over, reveals that 37% of millennial workers have taken time off from work without informing their manager or employer. This could include signing off early without telling anyone or spending time working remotely from a vacation spot without letting their employer know about it.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, only 72% of American employees had PTO ( paid time off) available to them in 2022, with the average amount ranging from six to 13 days depending on the age of the worker. So it's not too surprising that some workers are trying to squeeze in some extra free time when they can, which can be easier to do in a hybrid or remote work environment.

According to a new study, people who commute more than five hours each week are more likely to be physically inactive compared to those who only commute one-to-five hours a week.&nbsp;
As per researchers, a lengthy commute is associated with being overweight and may lead to drinking or sleeping problems.&nbsp;
Conducted by Stockholm University, the study looked at the responses of nearly 13,000 participants between the ages of 16 to 64. It was concluded that people who commute less or travel short distances are more physically active and have better health.&nbsp;
