In a not-so-surprising revelation, a new global survey of emotions in 2020 says that the pandemic year&nbsp;was a record year for stress,&nbsp;worry, anger and sadness.&nbsp;Stress levels, in particular, skyrocketed in 2020 with 40 per cent of all adults surveyed reporting a significant rise.&nbsp;&nbsp;
The&nbsp;Gallup 2021 Global Emotions Index says that this is the highest in 15 years. But the worst of this brunt was faced by women who were&nbsp;caring for young children at home during the pandemic.

The Gallup survey said that half of all the people who were working during the pandemic earned less money and 32% lost their jobs, all thanks to Covid-19.&nbsp;Overall, 80% of the people from the 116 countries surveyed said Covid-19 affected them in some way or the other.&nbsp;
In the span of a year, the percentage of people who said they smiled or laughed a lot the previous day also dropped from 75% to 70%, which is incidentally the lowest measure Gallup has ever recorded for this&nbsp;question.&nbsp;

According to the latest study published in the Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing, women with a history of weight cycling have increased rates of insomnia and other sleep disorders. &nbsp;
Weight cycling refers to the process of losing at least 10 pounds, only to gain it back and repeat the cycle again shortly thereafter. As per the report, this usually occurs when a person repeatedly starts and stops restrictive dieting.
What&rsquo;s alarming are the risks and issues that come with weight cycling. The researchers have associated history of weight cycling with poor sleep, including short sleep duration, frequent use of sleep medications, severe insomnia, greater sleep disturbances and daytime dysfunction amongst women. They also observed the high risk of developing Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
The researchers analysed data on 506 women, the average age being 37 years, enrolled in an ongoing American Heart Association-funded "Go Red for Women" research project. The women represented every stage of adult life, from childbearing to premenopausal and menopausal. It was observed that approximately 72 percent of the women reported episodes of weight cycling. In the majority of the cases, episodes of weight cycling had resulted in poor sleep quality. &nbsp;There supposedly seems to exist an &ldquo;intricate interplay&rdquo; between sleep and weight cycling.
The researchers have emphasised the need to ask women about their history of weight cycling in order to identify their risk for sleep problems. The findings also suggest that maintaining a&nbsp;stable body weight over time will go a long way in helping sleep disorders.

It was discovered that&nbsp;participants who took more steps in short spurts lived longer, regardless of how many steps they had in longer, uninterrupted bouts.&nbsp;&nbsp;
In order to attain&nbsp;significant&nbsp;mortality-delaying benefits of a daily walk, the magic number was&nbsp;found to be&nbsp;4,500 steps a day.&nbsp;In fact, the benefits levelled&nbsp;off&nbsp;at about&nbsp;7,500 steps per day.&nbsp;
Interestingly, compared to&nbsp;number of daily steps, each initial increase of 1,000 steps per day was linked to a 28 per cent decrease in death during the follow-up period.&nbsp;
For people who walked at least 2,000 steps per day,&nbsp;a 32 per cent decrease in death risk was noted.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Publishing in the journal,&nbsp;JAMA Internal Medicine, the team warned that since the study participants were mostly older women with an average age of 72, more research needs to be conducted to see whether the same applies to a more diverse&nbsp;group.
