They want to keep wrestlers as far as possible from the federation."
Sheoran expressed her skepticism about the safety of women wrestlers under the new leadership. &ldquo;The whole country has seen who was being garlanded yesterday after the elections. It is now clear who the dummy is and who will actually run the federation. There is no cleanup in the WFI. Who will bring about change? I don&rsquo;t think women wrestlers will be safe in wrestling. Women, including juniors, have been fearful for so many years&hellip; they could not even raise their voices. And now the voices of women wrestlers have been crushed again. If something bad happens to a woman wrestler today, they won&rsquo;t have the courage to speak up. The country&rsquo;s top women wrestlers were brave and spoke up about sexual harassment by Brij Bhushan, but today they have been defeated. If wrestlers like Vinesh and Sakshi can&rsquo;t make a difference today, which woman will have the guts to complain ever again."
She also shared her emotional response to Olympic medalist Sakshi Malik's decision to retire. "Every time I watch Sakshi&rsquo;s video, my eyes fill with tears. To see an Olympic medalist retire like this was heartbreaking. Bajrang was preparing for the Olympics, but he fought a battle to ensure that women wrestlers remained safe. Same with Vinesh (Phogat). They raised the voice of women. But what did they get today? Their only demand was reforms in the WFI and that a woman become the president in place of Brij Bhushan. Justice (retd) MM Kumar, the returning officer, clarified that the entire electoral process, including polling, vote counting, and result declaration, will be conducted in one day. However, the outcome of these elections remains contingent on the decision of a writ petition pending in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The WFI elections, which will take place during a Special General Body Meeting, will follow the electoral list prepared on August 7. This announcement dispels concerns that the electoral process might restart from scratch. As per the statement, all necessary steps had been completed by August 7, except for the actual polling, counting, and result declaration.

A witness in the alleged sexual harassment case against Brij Bhushan, Anita Sheoran filed a nomination to succeed the BJP MP as the president of WFI.

As the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) elections approach, candidates filed nominations at the Olympic Bhawan on July 31 for the 15 posts in contention, including 4 for the WFI president.&nbsp; Among those whole filed nominations for the August 12 elections, 18 were from ex-WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh's camp, while the other group did not divulge much information regarding their candidates.&nbsp; But a name that stood out was Anita Sheoran, a Commonwealth Games gold medallist, who was one of the witnesses in the alleged sexual harassment case against Brij Bhushan. Sheoran filed her nomination for the post of WFI President, being the only female candidate to do so.&nbsp; Candidates filed their nominations before Chief Justice of J&amp;K Mahesh Mittal Kumar, the Returning Office appointed for the elections. 'There are four candidates for the post of president, three for senior vice-president, six for vice-president, three for the post of general secretary, two for treasurer, three for joint secretary and nine for executive members' post. Against 15 posts, 30 persons have applied,' said Justice Kumar. The last date for withdrawing nominations is August 7. Brij Bhushan is ineligible to contest as he has completed 12 years as head of the federation -- the maximum period allowed as per the National Sports Code. Outgoing Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh claimed that 22 out of 25 state units attended a meeting hosted by him on Sunday, adding that "his candidates" for various posts for the federation elections on August 12 will be announced on Monday.
Monday is the last date for filing nominations.
"Twenty-two of the 25 states units associated with the WFI attended the meeting. (Our) candidates will be announced on Monday," said BJP MP Brij Bhushan, who hosted the meeting at a five-star hotel here.
Brij Bhushan, against whom the country's six top wrestlers including Olympic medallists Bajranj Punia and Sakshi Malik and Asian Games gold medallist Vinesh Phogat had levelled allegations of sexual harassment and sat in protest at Jantar Mantar, is ineligible to contest as he has completed 12 years as head of the federation -- the maximum period allowed as per the National Sports Code.
A state unit member, who attended the meeting said on the condition of anonymity, that the BJP leader's son-in-law Vishal Singh (President, Bihar Wrestling Federation), who was widely being touted as Brij Bhushan's successor for the top WFI post, will not contest the August 12 election for any top position.
"He (Vishal) declared his inability to contest the elections because he is very busy and said he will not be able to do justice to his job if he gets elected," said a state unit member secretary.
"He will, however, cast his vote," the secretary of the state body added.
Brij Bhushan's son Karan is also not part of the electoral college for the elections as Sports Minister Anurag Thakur had promised the protesting wrestlers at Jantar Mantar that none from the BJP leader's family would contest the elections.
However, Brij Bhushan's candidates could face challenges from rivals, who reportedly had a parallel meeting of their own at a different location in the national capital.
The meeting was reportedly attended by the state units of Assam, Odisha and Himachal Pradesh, though it could not be independently verified.
Assam was recently given voting rights by the IOA ad-hoc panel. Among those who could be in the fray from the rival faction are Railways Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) secretary Prem Chand Lochab (Gujarat representative) and Anita Sheoran, one of the witnesses in the sexual harassment case against Brij Bhushan, who has been named in the list as Odisha representative for the polls.
A Brij Bhushan camp insider said the BJP leader will have another meeting on Monday before the filing of nominations.
"There will be another meeting on Monday before the filing of nominations at the Olympic Bhawan, which will be chaired by Brij Bhushan," added the insider.
"Brij Bhushan spoke to every state unit chief individually to get a consensus on the candidates. We are all in favour of a unanimous candidate, who can take the sport forward," said Ranbir Kundu, the Punjab association secretary, adding that neither he nor his president, Asian Games gold medallist wrestler Kartar Singh, want to stand for key posts.
Kartar has previously served as WFI secretary.
Another source privy to the discussion said that most of the state units who came were in favour of "someone of stature" being nominated for the top posts.
"The names of J&amp;K wrestling body chief Dushyant Sharma, Kartar Singh (Punjab body chief) and Jai Prakash (Delhi association) also came up," said the source, adding, "the names of UP's state unit officials, Prem Kumar Mishra and Sanjay Singh, were also discussed for key posts." The day-to-day activities of the WFI are being managed by the Indian Olympic Association-constituted ad-hoc committee, led by Wushu Association of India chief Bhupender Singh Bajwa.
