West Indies were not really off to a poor start after electing to bat but their batting floundered in the middle overs and could only put together a below-par West Indies total of 135/7.

&nbsp;An unbeaten 67-run partnership for the fourth wicket between veteran all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt and captain Heather Knight helped England defeat the West Indies by seven wickets in an ICC Women's T20 World Cup Group B match here on Saturday.
The two England stalwarts took advantage of the below-par West Indies total of 135/7 to launch a concerted effort when they came together at the crease, finishing the match in the 15th over, with Sciver-Brunt scoring an unbeaten 40 and Knight remaining not out at 32.
While West Indies were not really off to a poor start after electing to bat, their batting floundered in the middle overs with no one able to give them the push in the death overs.
Skipper Hayley Matthews scored a quick-fire 42 (32 balls) at the top of the order, while Shemaine Campbelle made a laboured 34 as West Indies moved to a modest 69 for 2 at the start of the 11th over.
But just when the team wanted someone to give the scoreboard a boost after Matthews departed following a Sophie Ecclestone delivery thumping the West Indies opener's knee roll, there was no worthwhile partnership to guide the Caribbeans to a competitive total.
Sophie emerged the most successful bowler for England, taking three wickets for 23 runs in her four overs.
England were off to a confident start with opener Sophia Dunkley smashing an 18-ball 34 studded with four boundaries and a six, as she made her intentions clear. Though Danny Wyatt (11) and Alice Capsey (13) went cheaply, there was never a doubt about their supremacy.
Sciver-Brunt and Knight capitalised on a far-from-impressive West Indies bowling attack, putting it to the sword and smashing boundaries at will.
Sciver-Brunt smashed six boundaries and a maximum while her captain took just 22 deliveries on her way to an unbeaten 32, studded with four boundaries and a six.
Brief scores: West Indies Women: 135 for 7 in 20 overs (Hayley Matthews 42, Shemaine Campbelle 34; Sophie Ecclestone 3/23) lost to England Women 138 for 3 in 14.3 overs (Sophia Dunkley 34, Nat Sciver-Brunt 40 not out, Heather Knight 32 not out) by seven wickets.

The board appointed a 3-member panel consisting of former cricketers Brian Lara, Mickey Arthur, and a senior judge Patrick Thomson to probe the Windies' early exit from last year's T20 World Cup.&nbsp; The report of the review group which was made public on Thursday pointed out that West Indies cricket will cease to exist if players represent the nation on an optional basis and instead take part in lucrative T20 leagues across the world.
Nicholas Pooran-led side began their campaign Down Under with losses to Scotland and Ireland. This was their 2nd poor performance on the World stage 2021 T20 WC. The review group highlighted how the players who had appreciable performances in franchise T20 leagues were constantly not making themselves available for the national team selection. Andre Russell and Sunil Narine did not make themselves available for the T20 World Cup. Shimron Hetmyer's absence, the review report noted 'was a significant loss to the batting unit' 'In this group's view there is significant distrust between the players and administration and this distrust is inimical to ensuring that the best 11 players turn out for the Windies team in every match', the report said.&nbsp; The report that laid out a strategic short-term goal also suggested the board shortlist a pool of players for each format which would help them in the next edition of the T20 World Cup in 2024.&nbsp;

West Indies cricketer Shimron Hetmyer has been replaced in the West Indies' T20 World Cup squad after he missed his rescheduled flight to Australia.The board has named Shamarh Brooks as his replacement for the marquee event that will begin on October 16th.The decision comes after Hetmyer, who was to originally fly on October 1st requested for rescheduling of the flight due to 'personal reasons', Cricket West Indies (CWI) in a media release informed. Further, as per the release, Hetmyer later, informed CWI that 'he would not be able to get to the airport in time' for his rearranged flight as well.The 25-year-old had been earlier informed that any further delay would cost him his World Cup spot.Meanwhile, Brooks is set to fly to Australia later this week. He will directly join the Nicholas Pooran-led side in Melbourne where they will begin their campaign in the qualifying round.

Out of contention, Pakistan registered their first win in the ongoing ICC Women's ODI World Cup after handing West Indies a hurtful 8 wicket defeat in a 20-over-per side game on Monday at the Seddon Park in Hamilton. Pakistan won the toss and sent the Windies women to bat first. A brilliant performance by the Pakistani bowlers restricted the West Indies to mere 89. While Nida Dar took 4 wickets, Omaima Sohail and Fatima Sana took a wicket each. In reply, Muneeba Ali who was playing her first match in the competition scored 37 off 43, this was followed by Omaima Sohail and skipper Bismah Maroof adding an unbeaten 27 ball 22 and 20 off 29 respectively. The result is a big dent for Windies women who were sitting comfortably at the 3rd spot. They will now hope to secure a win against South Africa to keep their hopes for a semifinal spot alive.
