Mamata Banerjee's party claimed that the central forces deployed to secure free elections are sabotaging democracy in Bengal.

The ruling Trinamool Congress on April 26 alleged that voters are being assaulted in Balurghat&rsquo;s Municipality Ward No. 9.
Taking to social media X, Mamata Banerjee's party claimed that the central forces deployed to secure free elections are sabotaging democracy in Bengal. It further said that the voting has been stopped.
The TMC has lodged 31 poll complaints, of which 17 are from Balurghat, between 9 to 10 am.
Apart from Balurghat, Darjeeling, and Raiganj Lok Sabha constituencies in north Bengal are also witnessing polling in the second phase.
On Wednesday, the Election Commission of India said that 98 per cent of the polling stations in the three Lok Sabha constituencies in West Bengal that are going to polls in the second phase are "critical", because of which, central forces will be deployed at all polling stations in these seats.
"In the second phase of voting, 98 per cent of the polling stations in these seats have been identified as critical. As a result, central forces will be deployed in all polling stations.
"Besides, there will be 272 companies of CAPFs (Central Armed Police Forces) to take quick action in case of any disturbance on polling day," an election official said.
Also, an additional 12,983 state police personnel will be deployed, he said.
The poll body will deploy 73 companies of central forces at Balurghat, 60 companies in Raiganj, 51 each in Darjeeling and Islampur, 21 in Siliguri and 16 in Kalimpong, he said.
One company of central forces comprises around 100 personnel.&nbsp;&nbsp;

It had earlier decided to reopen one quarantine centre and two safe houses but the chairperson of the corporation and Bengal minister Firhad Hakim on Monday lowered the alert level as Covid case numbers came down.

As Odisha and West Bengal prepare for Super Cyclone Yaas to make its landfall on Wednesday, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) deployed its highest-ever number of teams to the two states to undertake relief and rescue operations. A total of 112 teams of the NDRF have been deployed in five States and Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands ahead of the Cyclone.The Indian Army&rsquo;s Eastern Command is helping with the rescue and relief operations in West Bengal.
The Indian Meteorological Department has put out a warning to the two states which may witness snapping of electrical power lines and trees while low lying areas will be inundated with low visibility. IMD DG M Mohapatra said the Cyclone is intensifying into a &lsquo;very severe cyclonic&rsquo; storm.
Cyclone Yaas has already intensified in Hooghly and North 24 Paraganas districts which reported atleast 80 houses damaged, several injured and two people dying due to electrocution.

The Election Commission in the second notice to Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee in two days asked her to explain by April 10 her comments allegedly telling people to "gherao" central security forces.
During the March 28 rally, Mamata had reportedly questioned &lsquo;who gave central forces the power to threaten women and not allow them to cast their votes&rsquo;.
The Bengal Chief Minister was asked to reply by 11 am on Saturday, explaining her comments. The election body felt her remarks violated several sections of the model code as well as the law.
