He brought home a silver medal in the snatch event with a personal best-equalling lift of 141kg in the non-Olympic 67kg weight class.

India&rsquo;s Commonwealth Games gold medallist Jeremy Lalrinnunga bagged a silver in snatch at the Asian Weightlifting Championships underway in South Korea&rsquo;s Jinju.&nbsp;
He brought home a silver medal in the snatch event with a personal best-equalling lift of 141kg in the non-Olympic 67kg weight class.
But returning from a thigh injury, the lifter failed to lift the weight in three clean and jerk attempts, becoming the only lifter out of 12 present who did not finish (DNF) his event. &nbsp;
Jeremy was unable to lift 165kg in his first two clean and jerk attempts. He then increased the weight to 168kg, which would have been 2kg more than his personal best, but the reigning Youth Olympic champion faltered again.
At the medal ceremony, as the lifter stood on the podium, one could see the disappointment on the Indian's face.
China's He Yueji 320kg (147kg+173kg) finished with the gold, while local favourite Lee Sangyeon 314kg (139kg+175kg) and Uzbek lifter Ergashev Adkhamjon 312kg (138kg+174kg) took home the silver and bronze medals respectively.
On Saturday, Bindyarani Devi had opened India's medal count by winning silver in the women's 55kg event.

Indian weightlifter Bindyarani Devi was quick to make amends after an underwhelming performance in snatch section as she clinched an overall silver in the women's 55kg competition at the Asian Championships in South Korea's Jinju on Saturday.
The Commonwealth Games silver medallist had a total effort of 194kg (83kg+111kg), as she opened India's medal tally in this edition of the championship.
Bindyarani also won the silver in the clean and jerk section. She was, however, competing in a non-Olympic weight category.
"I'm happy with my performance today. I had injured my left knee before the trials. Once that was okay I had issues with my right one so my training was affected and I couldn't give my best," she told PTI.
"But today thanks to god my body was feeling good before the competition," she added.
The Manipuri, who hasn't been able to speak to her family back home due to the ongoing ethnic violence in the state, had two failed lifts -- one each in snatch, and clean jerk. But a gold medal would have been out of her grasp even if she had completed those two lifts.
Chen Guan Ling of Chinese Taipei won the gold with a 204kg (90kg+114kg) effort while Vietnam's Vo Thi Quynh Nhu 192kg (88kg+104kg) bagged the bronze in a depleted field.
The top lifters in 55kg have either bulked up or moved down weight classes in order to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics next year.
Bindyarani started off nicely, executing her first two snatch attempts of 80kg and 83kg with relative ease but her 85kg try was deemed a no lift. Her personal best in snatch is 86kg.
Placed fourth after the snatch event, the Manipuri covered ground by lifting the second highest weight in clean and jerk.
She, then, unsuccessfully, tried to improve her total with a 115kg lift. She had lifted 116kg at the Birmingham CWG last year.
The Manipuri was forced to switch back to her original 55kg weight division for this event due to an injury she sustained ahead of the selection trials.
She had moved to the 59kg weight class, that features in the Paris Olympics, during last year's World Championships where she finished 25th.
Her performance in Jinju was not her best but head coach Vijay Sharma had said before the tournament that the aim was to make Bindyarani just participate in the event, which is one of the qualifiers of the Paris Olympics, and peak during the Asian Games later this year.
"Before the injury, I had improved my personal best but the injury affected my training and we wanted to take it easy. At the Asian Games, I will win gold for sure," Bindyarani said.
Under the 2024 Olympic qualification rule, a lifter has to compulsorily compete in the 2023 World Championships and the 2024 World Cup.
Apart from the two above, a lifter also has to participate in three among the following additional events -- the 2022 World Championships, the 2023 Continental Championships, the 2023 Grand Prix 1, the 2023 Grand Prix II and the 2024 Continental Championships.
Having competed in Jinju and in last year's World Championships, both Mirabai Chanu and Bindyarani now need to take part in one other additional event, apart from the two compulsory ones.
The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) will publish the Olympic Qualification Rating (OQR) of each weight category at the end of the qualification period.
A weightlifter's best three performances at the qualifying events will be taken into account for final assessment.&nbsp;

Star Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu's Asian Championship campaign did not go as per plan as she faltered in snatch and chose not to make her last two clean and jerk attempts to finish fifth here on Friday.
The Tokyo Olympics silver medallist, competing in the 49kg category, managed to lift 85kg in snatch and 109kg in clean and jerk for an overall effort of 194kg, a whopping 13kg less than her personal best of 207kg.
Chanu started the snatch with an 85kg lift, which she executed perfectly.
She then set a weight of 88kg as she attempted to match her personal best. The Manipuri, however, failed to heave the barbell in her next two attempts and had to be content with an 85kg total in snatch.
Four lifters had better snatch results than Chanu, all lifting 90kg or above.
While Chanu herself has been trying to breach the 90kg-mark in snatch since 2020, head coach Vijay Sharma had told PTI that the former world champion was unlikely to attempt the coveted lift here.
The last time Chanu competed at the Asian Championships in 2021, she had returned home with a bronze medal and a world record in clean and jerk (119kg).
However this time, she only attempted a 109kg lift before deciding not to go for her final two attempts, the reason for which is not known yet.
Sharma has said several times earlier that the aim is to peak at the Asian Games later this year. A medal at the continental multi-sport event is the only one missing from the Manipuri's trophy cabinet.
China's Jiang Huihua won the gold medal with a total lift of 207kg (94kg+113kg). She attempted to break Chanu's world reord of 119kg with a lift of 120kg in her final clean and jerk attempt.
Tokyo Olympic gold medallist Hou Zhihui finished second as she heaved 204kg (93kg+111kg) while Thailand's Serodchana Khambao 200kg (90kg+110lg) bagged the bronze medal.
The ongoing championship is one of the qualifying events for the 2024 Paris Olympics, where weightlifting events will be cut from 14 at Tokyo Games to 10.
However, it is an additional event and not a compulsory one.
Under the 2024 Olympic qualification rule, a lifter has to compulsorily compete in the 2023 World Championships and the 2024 World Cup.
Apart from the two above, a lifter also has to participate in three of the following events -- the 2022 World Championships, the 2023 Continental Championships, the 2023 Grand Prix 1, the 2023 Grand Prix II and the 2024 Continental Championships.

An 86-year-old UK man has set a new world record in weightlifting, as per the country's media reports.
According to British Drug-Free Powerlifting Association, Brian Winslow lifted 77.5 kg at a recently held powerlifting championship, where he set a UK as well as a world record in the 60 kg class for male contestants between 85 and 89 years.

Two-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist Sanjita Chanu has been provisionally suspended by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) after she failed a dope Test at Gujarat National Games in September-October last year.&nbsp;
According to a Times of India report, Sanjita's urine sample returned positive for drostanolone after she secured a silver medal in the women's 49kg category at the National Games.
The 29-year-old weightlifter will be banned for 4 years if she is found guilty by NADA's anti-doping disciplinary panel.

Yet, she kept her composure and showed super-impressive strength to finish with a 116 kg in the clean and jerk, a Commonwealth Games record and 5 more than the gold medal winner - Adijat Adenike from Nigeria.
Her overall total was 202 kg and she finished just a solitary kilo behind her counterpart from Nigeria.
Her silver meant that India had bagged a medal each in all the four weightlifting events of the day, a Super Saturday for Team India in Birmingham.

Indian weightlifter Bindyarani Devi capped off a great day for India with a silver medal in the women&rsquo;s 55 kg category.
Bindyarani lifted a best of 86 kg in her snatch event that put her in the third spot early on, 6 kg behind the top spot.
It was the clean and jerk though where she showed some amazing form. She was in fact still third before her final lift, which was also the last attempt of the entire event.

Yet, she kept her composure and showed super-impressive strength to finish with a 116 kg in the clean and jerk, a Commonwealth Games record and 5 more than the gold medal winner - Adijat Adenike from Nigeria.
Her overall total was 202 kg and she finished just a solitary kilo behind her counterpart from Nigeria.
Her silver meant that India had bagged a medal each in all the four weightlifting events of the day, a Super Saturday for Team India in Birmingham.

His story of becoming India's 3rd Commonwealth Games Gold medallist at Birmingham 2022 is that of pain, perseverance and determination. 
The once underweight & malnourished Achinta lifted a Games record of 313kgs to win the Gold in the 73kg category in England.
Having lost his father at the very young age of 11, the star who lives in a modest house in Deulpur, roughly an hour from Kolkata, worked as a tailor to help his mother.
Taking inspiration from a bodybuilding show on television, the Sheuli brothers, Alok and Achinta decided to step into the world of lifters. 
Achinta dedicated his Gold to his family's sacrifice, his brother's pain; the pain of stepping away from his dream for the sake of Achinta's dream...Despite the financial implications, his mother, Purnima Sheuli never undermined her son's dreams of bringing an international medal home. 
And thus, juggling between tailoring and weightlifting, Sheuli embarked on his journey of becoming the best in the business.
Determined to drive his family out of the shackles of poverty, Achinta's skills first came to the fore in 2015, when he won the silver medal at Commonwealth Youth Championship. Since then, the youngster hasn't relaxed. He has bagged medals at various events like Junior Asian Championship, Junior World Championship & the Commonwealth Championships.
Achinta & Jeremy Lalrinnungu, apparently have an interesting connect. Both the now-CWG gold medallists are roommates since their training days. 
Dead set on winning accolades for their nation, the two friends, who 'would forget about home when together', would persevere alongside each other to shine the brightest in the days to come.

Their events will begin at 1.30 PM IST on Saturday.From the women’s team, apart from Mirabai, Bindyarani Devi will also be competing in the 55kg category scheduled for 12.30 AM IST (Sunday).India has had a number of podium finishes when it comes to weightlifting at the quadrennial event. You may have to re-think your fitness regime if this new study is anything to go by. According to research by St. George's University in Grenada, weight lifting is more beneficial than dynamic activities like cycling or walking, in preventing heart diseases. The study included 4,086 adults and cardiovascular risk factors like high blood pressure were analysed. It also suggests that stationary activities like strength training, reduces the risk of heart diseases more strongly than walking or cycling since expenditure of oxygen is more intense.
