Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway slashed its Apple stake by nearly 50%, from $174 billion to $84 billion. Amid rising economic uncertainty in the U.S and concerns of a recession resurfacing, Berkshire's cash reserves now stand at a record $277 billion.

Today, we're talking about one of the biggest names in investing&mdash;Warren Buffett&mdash;and his surprising decision to slash his stake in Apple by almost 50%.
 Yes, you heard that right. Berkshire Hathaway's Apple holdings have dramatically decreased in value, plummeting from $174 billion at the end of 2023 to $84 billion by the end of June 2024. In total, Berkshire sold a whopping $75.5 billion worth of stock in that period.
 This isn't the first time Buffett has reduced his stake in Apple. Earlier this year, in the January to March quarter, Berkshire sold 10% of its Apple shares. As per estimates, despite these sales, Berkshire still holds around 400 million Apple shares.
 Since revealing his company's stake in Apple in 2016, Apple's shares have soared nearly 900%, delivering massive unrealized profits for Berkshire Hathaway.
 Buffett has often praised Apple as an incredibly well-run company and commended Tim Cook's leadership. So, why sell such a significant portion of a company he's so fond of?
 After selling around 10% of his Apple stake earlier this year, Buffett hited that it was for tax reasons. He said that selling some Apple stock could benefit shareholders if capital gains taxes were raised by the government in the future.
 According to experts, this move isn't about a lack of conviction in Apple. In fact, Joe Gilbert, senior portfolio manager at Integrity Asset Management, told Bloomberg that Buffett's reduction in Apple shares is purely about risk management. Gilbert added that if Buffett had had any concerns about Apple's long-term viability, he would have sold his entire stake.
 This announcement also comes amid broader economic concerns, including potential downturns and worse-than-expected job data, which has fueled fears that the Federal Reserve may have delayed reducing interest rates for too long.
 Apple isn't the only stock Berkshire has sold. Since mid-July, the company has also sold over $3.8 billion in shares of Bank of America, its second-largest stock holding.
 As a result of these sales, Buffett is now sitting on cash reserves of $277 billion, up from an already record $189 billion just a few months earlier. This has sparked concerns about Berkshire's outlook on the broader US economy."
 At Berkshire's annual shareholder meeting in May, Buffett mentioned that he's in no rush to spend this cash unless an opportunity with very little risk and high potential returns comes along."

Warren Buffett, Greg Abel, and Ajit Jain took on shareholder queries during the Berkshire Annual Meeting 2024 in Omaha. This is the first address that took place without Charlie Munger, the vice chairman of Berkshire and Buffett's longtime investment collaborator, who passed away at the age of 99 in late November.

<h3>Investment in India</h3>
On opportunities in India, Buffett said that he was sure that there are loads of opportunities but, "the question is whether Berkshire has an advantage or insights into those business."
"In India, I am sure that there are loads of opportunities in a place like India, and the question is do we have any advantage, in either insight into those businesses or contacts that will make possible for some transactions that participants in India would particularly want us to participate," Warren Buffett said Berkshire Hathaway's annual meeting.&nbsp;
In the address, Buffett also affirmed that Greg Abel will be his successor and entrusted him with all investment decisions, including the stock portfolio.
<h3>US fiscal deficit</h3>
Buffett also emphasised concerns over US fiscal deficit and not the country's national debt quantity. He further highlighted the importance of fiscal policy over monetary policy. While praising Fed chairman Jerome Powell, he also cautioned against the potential global economic threat posed by unchecked inflation
<h3>Artificial Intelligence</h3>
Amid the fast growing innovation in the Artificial Intelligence field, Buffett suggested that he expects AI scamming might become a lucrative industry in the future. While citing encounters with AI generated content, he further warned of AI's potential for both advancement and deception.&nbsp;
He also compared its impact to the advent of nuclear weapons, foreseeing disruption in labor-intensive sectors within Berkshire's portfolio due to AI's efficiency.&nbsp;
&ldquo;Obviously, AI has potential for good things too, but I do think, as someone who doesn&rsquo;t understand a damn thing about it, it has enormous potential for good and enormous potential for harm &mdash; and I just don&rsquo;t know how that plays out,&rdquo; he said.
&ldquo;I don&rsquo;t know any way to get the genie back in the bottle, and AI is somewhat similar. It&rsquo;s part of the way out of the bottle, and it&rsquo;s enormously important and it&rsquo;s going to be done by somebody ... whether it&rsquo;s going to change the future of society, we will find out later,&rdquo; Buffett added.

While talking about the S&amp;P500 valuation, Buffett advised that it wasn't a prime time for investments. He also reflected on past opportunities and indicated occasional disparities in acquisition strategies between himself, Greg Abel, and other managers.

In stringent action against Paytm Payments Bank (PPBL), the Reserve Bank of India on Jan 31st, 2024 directed the lender to stop accepting deposits or top-ups in in customer accounts, wallets, FASTags and other instruments after February 29. However, any balance on Paytm wallet, payments bank account, FASTags etc, can be withdrawn or utilised.

American magnate Warren Buffett has donated 13.69 million shares of Berkshire Hathaway to 5 different foundations. The foundations include Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Foundation, Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, Sherwood Foundation, Howard G. Buffett Foundation and NoVo Foundation.
Four out of the five foundations are run by Buffett's three children. The Bill &amp; Melinda Gates foundation has received the highest donation of 10,453,008 shares worth $3.6 billion. Meanwhile, Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation has received 1,045,300 shares and Sherwood Foundation, Howard G. Buffett Foundation and NoVo Foundation each has got 731,708 shares. The value of the shares at the time of donation was $50 billion.&nbsp;
&ldquo;The five foundations have received Berkshire B shares that had a value when received of about $50 billion, substantially more than my entire net worth in 2006. I have no debts and my remaining A shares are worth about $112 billion, well over 99 per cent of my net worth", Warren Buffet said.&nbsp;
The donations are a part of Buffett's annual giving programme that started in 2006. To make the donation, Buffett has converted 9,129 A shares into 13,693,500 B shares.
"When originally made, I owned 474,998 Berkshire A shares worth about $43 billion and those shares represented more than 98% of my net worth. I have converted A shares into B shares before making contributions. During the following 17 years, I have neither bought nor sold any A or B shares nor do I intend to do so. The five foundations have received Berkshire B shares that had a value when received of about $50 billion, substantially more than my entire net worth in 2006. I have no debts and my remaining A shares are worth about $112 billion, well over 99% of my net worth," Buffett added.
The main difference between A share and B share is that investors holding A shares have more voting power than the investors holding B shares. The cost of A share is also much higher than that of the B share.
