The Sunrisers Hyderabad on Tuesday announced Sri Lankan leg-spinner Vijayakanth Viyaskanth as a replacement for an injured Wanindu Hasaranga for IPL 2024.
22-year-old Viyaskanth has played just 1 T20I when he represented Sri Lanka at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou and took 1 wicket.
He was impressive for the MI Emirates at the ILT20 where he claimed 8 wickets in 4 matches. He has also played in the Bangladesh Premier League and the Lanka Premier League.
In a total of 33 T20s, Viyaskanth has taken 42 wickets at an average of 18.7. His economy rate of just 6.76 is also impressive.
Hasaranga was officially ruled out of IPL 2024 on Saturday owing to chronic pain in his heel that initially delayed his arrival for the cash-rich league.

Hasaranga was bought by Hyderabad for Rs. 1.5 crores after being released by Bengaluru last year.

Sri Lankan ace Wanindu Hasaranga will not take the field for at least another seven days as he continues to consult doctors regarding his chronic left heel pain.&nbsp; Hasaranga, who was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad in December's mini-auction, will have to wait for his debut as his heel continues to trouble him.&nbsp; As per an ESPNCricinfo report, 'Sri Lanka Cricket's medical staff have assessed him, and suspect the pain is down to musculo-skeletal apparatus in his left heel having become worn.'&nbsp; The report further states that Sri Lanka Cricket's doctors have asked the spinner to consult other medical experts and he is expected to fly out of the country for the same.&nbsp; Hasaranga's IPL participation currently remains unsure as there is no set date to when he joins the SRH squad.&nbsp; The Sri Lankan's target likely remains the T20 World Cup in June, where he is set to lead the team.&nbsp;

All-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga is set to miss at least the first 3 IPL matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad after he was named in the Sri Lanka squad for a 2-Test series against Bangladesh starting March 22.
Hasaranga has played 4 Tests for Sri Lanka. He had announced his retirement from the longest format in August last year to focus on white-ball cricket.
However, the 26-year-old was named in Sri Lanka's 17-man squad on Tuesday along with uncapped spinner Nishan Peiris.
The first Test will be played in Sylhet from March 22-26, while the second tie is slated from March 30 to April 3 at Chattogram.
Hasaranga was roped in by SRH at his base price of Rs 1.5 crore.
As per the IPL schedule announced for the first two weeks, SRH will take on Kolkata Knight Riders on March 23 in Kolkata. They will travel to Hyderabad for the tie against Mumbai Indians on March 27 and then proceed to Ahmedabad for the game against Gujarat Titans on March 31.
It remains to be seen if the right-arm spinner will be available for SRH's home fixture against Chennai Super Kings on April 5.

Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga on Tuesday announced his retirement from Test cricket as he seeks to prolong his career in limited-over format of the game.
The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said it has accepted the decision of the 26-year-old Hasaranga.
&ldquo;We will accept his decision and are confident that Hasaranga will be a vital part of our white-ball programme going forward,&rdquo; said SLC CEO Ashley De Silva.
Hasaranga made his Test debut against South Africa at Centurion in 2020, and played three more Tests thereafter.
From four Tests, he took four wickets with his leg-spin. His last Test was against Bangladesh in Pallekele in 2021.
However, Hasaranga continues to be a prominent figure for Sri Lanka in white ball formats as the spin spearhead and a handy lower-order batsman.
From 48 ODIs, Hasaranga grabbed 67 wickets and made 832 runs with four fifties.
Hasaranga has 91 wickets from 58 T20Is and amassed 533 runs with a fifty.
The Lankan is also a much sought-after player in various T20 leagues across the world.
Apart from plying his trade with the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL, Hasaranga has also played for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots (CPL), Quetta Gladiators (PSL), Kandy Falcons and Jaffna Kings (LPL), Desert Vipers (IL T20) and Washington Freedom (MLC).&nbsp;
