Walmart, the world&rsquo;s largest omnichannel retailer, has announced new strategic pilot programs in collaboration with three Indian startups&mdash;KBCols Sciences (Pune), GreenPod Labs (Chennai), and Cropin (Bengaluru). These initiatives aim to enhance Walmart's U.S. supply chain and sourcing operations, focusing on sustainability, efficiency, and improved product quality.
The three startups were selected during the Walmart Growth Summit in India, a global platform for entrepreneurs and innovators. Their solutions will be tested to address challenges in Walmart's supply chain, such as reducing waste, improving freshness, and adopting sustainable alternatives.
Here&rsquo;s what each startup brings to the table:
KBCols Sciences: This Pune-based company develops non-GMO natural dyes from agricultural waste. Their eco-friendly dyes reduce water and energy usage, offering a sustainable alternative to synthetic dyes. Walmart will pilot these dyes on woven fabrics and jersey cotton.
 GreenPod Labs: The Chennai startup produces plant extract-based sachets that slow down ripening, extending the freshness of fruits and vegetables during transportation. Walmart is testing these sachets with UC Davis to assess their effectiveness in maintaining produce quality.
 Cropin: Bengaluru's Cropin provides an AI-powered AgTech platform that offers insights into crop yields, health, and seasonal transitions. Walmart will pilot this technology to optimize sourcing, improve harvest quality, and reduce waste in perishable supply chains.
 Kyle Carlyle, Walmart&rsquo;s Vice President of Sourcing Innovation, said, &ldquo;By collaborating with global innovators, we&rsquo;re leveraging fresh ideas to build a more resilient supply network. These startups demonstrate our goals across the food and textile industries.&rdquo;

Employees from smaller offices in Dallas, Atlanta, and Toronto are being requested to transition to larger hubs like Walmart's corporate headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas. The report added that Walmart would let the staff work remotely part time as long as they are in offices for most of the time.

Sources within the industry revealed that the ongoing funding round values Flipkart at a premium of approximately 5-10% compared to its previous valuation, which stood around $35 billion.
Walmart's increasing stake in Flipkart surpassed 80% following the acquisition of residual shares from early investors such as Tiger Global Management, Accel, and co-founder Binny Bansal. In specific transactions, Tiger Global and Accel divested their remaining stakes to Walmart, reaping substantial gains totaling billions of dollars. Co-founder Binny Bansal also sold his remaining stake, garnering considerable returns from the sale.
Prior to these transactions, Walmart had initially acquired a 77% stake in Flipkart for $16 billion in May 2018, later adjusting it to 75%. The recent acquisitions from key stakeholders further solidified Walmart's position in the company.
Accel, an early investor in Flipkart, had gradually reduced its stake from over 20% to about 6% before Walmart's majority acquisition in 2018. Post-acquisition, Accel retained a minor stake, which was subsequently sold. Meanwhile, Sachin Bansal, another co-founder, sold his entire stake to Walmart in 2018, while Binny Bansal maintained a small share until July of this year, when he divested it.

The losses include more than 1,000 positions at a warehouse in Fort Worth, Texas, the state&rsquo;s workforce commission said. A reduction of almost 600 jobs is anticipated in Pennsylvania fulfillment center, 400 in Florida and about 200 in New Jersey. California might also see an additional reduction in workforce.
According to Bloomberg, the regulatory filings add precision to the staffing cuts at the Walmart warehouses, which the company confirmed last month without quantifying.&nbsp;
Meanwhile, a spokesperson has told Bloomberg that Walmart is expanding in certain areas as it adjusts its stores and fulfillment centers to handle more online orders. This may allow the company to reshuffle the employees rather than letting them go.
