Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai begins his first foreign trip to Japan and South Korea to promote investment in electronics, automobile, and food processing sectors.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Thursday proceeded on a 10-day tour of Japan and South Korea to attract investment in the state, a government official said.
This will be the first foreign trip by Sai after becoming the CM, and it aims to draw investors, especially from electronics, automobile, and food processing sectors, to the state, he said.
Talking to reporters at Swami Vivekananda Airport in Raipur before leaving for Delhi, from where he will fly abroad, Sai said he will attend the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan.
&ldquo;In Japan and South Korea, there is good work in the fields of electronics, automobile and food processing, while Chhattisgarh also has immense possibilities in these sectors. Therefore, we are going there with our new Industrial Policy and will invite industrialists to invest in Chhattisgarh,&rdquo; Sai said.
After the introduction of the new industrial policy (in November last year), the state has so far received investment proposals worth Rs 6.5 lakh crore. Of them, several works have started. The implementation of others will take some time,&rdquo; he added.
Sai will return on August 31, the official said.
Chhattisgarh is set to showcase its unique heritage and development journey at the ongoing prestigious World Expo in Osaka, he said. More than 160 countries and 9 international organisations are participating in this event.
World Expos, organised by the Bureau International des Expositions, are global stages for breakthrough technologies and sustainable development. In Osaka, the overarching concept is &ldquo;People&rsquo;s Living Lab&rdquo;, celebrating global innovation and co-creation of a sustainable future, he said.
India is making a strong mark at the Expo by showcasing its achievements in Information Technology, Space Technology, Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals, Tourism, Culture, Infrastructure, and Railways, he said.
Chhattisgarh has already made its presence felt with a glimpse of its world-famous &lsquo;Dokra&rsquo; art under the ODOP (One District One Product) initiative, enthralling the global audience with its unique metal craftsmanship, he said.
The state will now display its dedicated stall at the expansive Expo site at Yumeshima Island in Konohanaku in Osaka. Under the leadership of the CM, Chhattisgarh will highlight its rich cultural heritage and modern progress in technology, trade, and infrastructure, he added.
In a post on X, Sai thanked his cabinet colleagues who met him at the Raipur airport to extend their best wishes.
&ldquo;With the new industrial policy, Chhattisgarh is rapidly becoming a centre of industrial development and investment. I have full faith that with the love and good wishes of all of you, this visit will definitely open the doors of new opportunities for investment and employment generation in the state,&rdquo; he said.

Three BJP MLAs &mdash; Rajesh Agrawal, Guru Khushwant Saheb and Gajendra Yadav &mdash; were inducted into CM Vishnu Deo Sai&rsquo;s cabinet, taking its strength to 14, the highest in Chhattisgarh&rsquo;s history.

Three BJP MLAs were inducted into Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai's cabinet in Chhattisgarh on Wednesday, raising its strength to 14, the highest in the state's history after the introduction of a constitutional provision to limit the size cabinet size.
Governor Ramen Deka administered the oath of office and secrecy to BJP legislators Rajesh Agrawal, Guru Khushwant Saheb and Gajendra Yadav, all first-time MLAs, at a function held in the Raj Bhavan here.
CM Sai, assembly speaker Raman Singh, Deputy CMs Arun Sao and Vijay Sharma, state ministers and other leaders attended the function.
Yadav has been given charge of the school education, law and legal affairs, and cottage industry ministries.
Guru Khushwant Saheb has been made the minister for skill development, technical education and employment, and Scheduled Caste Development department.
Agrawal has been assigned tourism, culture, religious trust and endowment ministries.
Sai congratulated the three new ministers and extended his best wishes to them.
In a statement, Sai expressed confidence that they will serve the people with utmost dedication, commitment and efficiency, and contribute towards taking Chhattisgarh to new heights of development and good governance.
Wishing the ministers a bright tenure, the CM said the state government, driven by collective cooperation and commitment, will continue to make consistent efforts to fulfill the people's aspirations.
Before the expansion, the Chhattisgarh cabinet had 11 members, including CM Sai.
In Chhattisgarh, which has a 90-member assembly, 13 MLAs, including the chief minister, have traditionally been part of the cabinet since the introduction of the 91st Constitutional Amendment Act, 2003, which states that the size of a state's Council of Ministers, including CM, cannot exceed 15 per cent of total strength of the House.
Chhattisgarh has adopted the "Haryana model," where 14 ministers, including the CM, serve in a 90-member assembly, as per sources.
Like Haryana, for Chhattisgarh, with 90 members, the limit comes to 13.5, which makes room for 14 cabinet members.
The expanded cabinet reflects a balance of caste and regional representation.
Of the three newly ministers, Yadav hails from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community, Saheb from Scheduled Caste and Agrawal from the general category.
After the expansion, the cabinet now has seven members belonging to the OBC -- Deputy CM Arun Sao, ministers Lakhan Lal Dewangan, Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, OP Choudhary, Tank Ram Verma, Laxmi Rajwade and Gajendra Yadav.
CM Sai, ministers Ram Vichar Netam and Kedar Kashyap hail from the Scheduled Tribes, Dayaldas Baghel and Guru Khushwant Saheb are from the SC category, while Deputy CM Vijay Sharma and Rajesh Agrawal are from the general category.
Laxmi Rajwade is the only woman member in the cabinet.
After the cabinet expansion, the Sai-led government has five members from Surguja division (north Chhattisgarh), three from Bilaspur division, two from Raipur division, three from Durg division and one from Bastar division (south Chhattisgarh).
The government has ensured representation from all major communities and regions, further consolidating its social and political base in the state, say political analysts.
The Bharatiya Janata Party came to power in the state by ousting the Congress in the 2023 assembly polls. It won 54 seats, while the Congress got 35 seats, down from 68 it won in the 2018 elections.
CM Sai, along with Deputy CMs Arun Sao and Vijay Sharma, took oath on December 13, 2023. Nine ministers were inducted later that month.
The then MLA and minister Brijmohan Agrawal resigned last year after being elected to the Lok Sabha from Raipur.
Profiles of new ministers are as follows:&nbsp;
1. Rajesh Agrawal (58), legislator from Ambikapur seat in Surguja division, defeated senior Congress leader and former deputy CM T S Singh Deo by just 94 votes in the 2023 assembly election. A first-time MLA, Agrawal hails from the Vaishya community.
After being elected as MP from Raipur parliamentary, Brijmohan Agarwal resigned as state minister. Since then, it was believed an MLA from the Vaishya community would be given a place in the cabinet. Amar Agarwal, Sunil Soni and Sampat Agarwal are also MLAs from the community, but the BJP expressed confidence in Rajesh Agarwal. He joined the BJP after quitting Congress in 2018.
2. Guru Khushwant Saheb (36) represents the Arang constituency reserved for SC category.
He is the son of Satnami sect leader Baldas Saheb and the duo joined the BJP after quitting Congress ahead of the 2023 assembly elections. The Satnami sect, followed by a majority of the SC population in Chhattisgarh, accounts for around 13 per cent of the state's population and is considered a crucial vote bank.
3. Gajendra Yadav, MLA from Durg, belonging to the numerically strong OBC Yadav community, comes from the RSS background.
In 2023, he defeated Congress leader Arun Vora, son of former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Motilal Vora, by nearly 49,000 votes. Gajendra Yadav's father Bisra Ram Yadav had been the Prant Sanghchalak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Chhattisgarh in the past.
Earlier, senior BJP leader late Hemanchand Yadav, who also hailed from Yadav community and was elected as a MLA from same Durg constituency, served as minister from 2003 to 2013 during then Raman Singh-led BJP governments in the state.&nbsp;

Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai directs officials to ensure timely compensation for deaths, crop loss, and livestock damage caused by wild animal attacks.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has directed officials to ensure prompt compensation for incidents involving human, livestock and crop losses due to wild animal attacks.
During a review meeting of the Forest and Climate Change Department in Nava Raipur on Tuesday, Sai noted that residents of forested regions often suffer the pain of losing their loved ones in such tragic incidents, and stressed their grievances must be addressed swiftly with a humane approach, an official release said.
"The elephant-human conflict and other incidents involving violent wild animals causing loss of life, livestock and crops have become significant challenges in the forest regions of the state. In such situations, it is the government's responsibility to ensure the affected families receive timely and just assistance," the CM said.
He instructed that all related cases be resolved promptly and as per regulations.
Highlighting the economic and emotional impact of these events, Sai said, "Wild elephants not only damage staple crops like paddy but also cause massive destruction to cash crops such as sugarcane, banana, papaya and jackfruit. This results in a dual burden -- financial and psychological -- on the farmers." During the meeting, Sai also reviewed the current status of individual forest rights titles granted in the state.
State Forest and Climate Change Minister Kedar Kashyap directed that departmental coordination be further strengthened to ensure timely delivery of compensation to affected individuals.
A proposal for revising and increasing compensation for the loss of life, permanent disability, loss of livestock, property and crop damage was also put forth.
There was also a discussion in the meeting on the assistance provided under RBC (Revenue Book Circular) provisions for crop loss caused by natural disasters.
More than 320 persons have been killed in elephant attacks in the state in the last five years, according to forest department officials.
Human-elephant conflicts in the northern part of Chhattisgarh have been a major cause of concern for the state administration for the last one decade. The menace has further spread its footprint in some districts of the central region in the last few years.
The districts that have witnessed human-elephant conflicts include Surguja, Raigarh, Korba, Surajpur and Balrampur.

The BJP on Sunday picked Vishnu Deo Sai, a prominent tribal leader, as the next chief minister of Chhattisgarh, ending the suspense over who will helm the state which the saffron party wrested from Congress in recent polls.
Sai (59) was elected as the BJP's legislative party leader during a meeting of 54 newly-elected MLAs held at the party's state headquarters here in the afternoon, a party functionary said.
After the meeting, a delegation of BJP MLAs led by Sai met governor Biswabhusan Harichandan to stake a claim to form the next government.
&ldquo;We have handed over a letter to the Governor stating that Sai ji has been elected as the legislative party leader,&rdquo; senior BJP MLA Brijmohan Agrawal told reporters.
He said the date of the swearing-in ceremony would be informed later.
As a chief minister, Sai said he would try to fulfil PM Modi's "guarantees" and sanction 18 lakh houses to the beneficiaries of the PM Awas Yojna, who were deprived of the benefits under the erstwhile Congress government, will be the top priority.
BJP's three observers - Union ministers Arjun Munda and Sarbananda Sonowal and party general secretary Dushyant Kumar Gautam - attended the meeting of the MLAs, besides BJP's in-charge for Chhattisgarh Om Mathur, Union minister Mansukh Mandaviya and party's co-in-charge for the state Nitin Nabin.
At the meeting, the proposal to elect Sai as the legislative party leader was moved by former chief minister Raman Singh, which was seconded by state BJP president Arun Sao and senior leader Brijmohan Agrawal.
Sai thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP president J P Nadda and other party leaders for reposing faith in him to hold the top post in Chhattisgarh.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, Sai said fulfilling the promises of the BJP mentioned in the poll manifesto would be the priority of his government.
"As chief minister of Chhattisgarh, I will try to fulfil the BJP's pre-poll promises which are PM Modi's guarantees through the government," Sai said.
&ldquo;In the five years (of Bhupesh Baghel-led Congress government), 18 lakh beneficiaries of the PM Awas Yojna were deprived of the benefits under this scheme. Sanctioning 18 lakh houses to these beneficiaries will be the first work (to be done) in the state&rdquo;, he said.
On the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister (late) Atal Bihari Vajpayee December 25, who was the founder of Chhattisgarh State, a bonus against paddy procurement for two years which was pending during the previous BJP government (2013-2018) will be given to farmers (who had then sold their paddy), Sai said.
"All the guarantees of Modi Ji, BJP's poll promises, will be fulfilled in the next five years," he said.
Sai has become the fourth chief minister of the state. His predecessors included Ajit Jogi (Congress), Raman Singh (BJP) who helmed the state for three consecutive terms starting from 2003 to 2018, and Bhupesh Baghel (Congress) who held the top post from 2018 to December 2023.
Baghel congratulated Sai on being elected as the leader of the BJP&rsquo;s legislative party.
The BJP won 54 out of the total 90 assembly seats in the recently held elections, reducing Congress' tally to 35. The Gondwana Gantantra Party managed to win one seat.
The former Union minister who had also served as Chhattisgarh BJP chief, Sai was elected as an MLA from the Kunkuri seat in the state's Surguja division, swept by the BJP which won all 14 segments in the region.
Overall, the BJP bagged 17 of the 29 seats reserved for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates, a feat that added crucial numbers to its winning tally.
This comprehensive win in the tribal turfs contributed to the BJP's resounding victory in the Assembly polls and return to power in the state after a gap of five years.
Sai started his political career as a village sarpanch and rose to become a Union minister and a multiple-time Lok Sabha member besides getting important organisational roles.
The newly-elected MLA from Jashpur district in the Surguja region perfectly fits in the BJP's scheme of things since Adivasis account for nearly 32 per cent of Chhattisgarh's population and are the second most dominant social group after OBCs.
Sai hails from a farming family based in a small village, Bagia, in the tribal-dominated Jashpur district.
He studied in a government school in Kunkuri and went to Ambikapur for graduation but quit studies midway and returned to his village in 1988. In 1989, he was elected as a 'panch' of Bagia village panchayat and the next year became the sarpanch unopposed.
It is believed that BJP stalwart late Dilip Singh Judev encouraged Sai to enter electoral politics in 1990. In the same year, Sai was elected as MLA for the first time on a BJP ticket from Tapkara (in Jashpur district) in undivided Madhya Pradesh. He retained the seat in the 1993 assembly polls.
In 1998, Sai unsuccessfully contested the Assembly polls from the adjoining Pathalgaon seat. Later, he was elected as MP from Raigarh Lok Sabha constituency four times in a row - 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2014.

Incidentally, addressing a poll rally in the Kunkuri constituency last month, Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah had urged voters to elect Sai, promising to make the latter a "big man" if the party comes back to power in the state.
The BJP won 54 seats in the 90-member Assembly in the recently held polls, while the Congress was reduced to 35 seats from the 68 it won in 2018.
The BJP, which had suffered a huge setback in tribal-dominated seats in 2018, put up a good show this time, winning 17 of the 29 seats reserved for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates.
The saffron outfit won all the 14 assembly segments in the tribal-dominated Surguja region and eight out of the 12 seats in another Adivasi belt Bastar.
