Two children and an adult were crushed to death when a three-storeyed residential building collapsed in the small hours of Thursday in Visakhapatnam, a police official said.

&ldquo;Suddenly at 1.30 in the morning, the whole structure collapsed,&rdquo; Deputy Commissioner of Police Sumit Sunil Garud said, sharing the preliminary information said. "Police and fire services responded immediately and with quick action we could rescue five of them." Had the police and fire services not attended to the emergency immediately, Garud said, more occupants of the building would have died.
The IPS officer, who spent two hours at the accident site, oversaw the rescue of a woman. Five rescued tenants are undergoing treatment in hospital.
Meanwhile, police booked a case under Section 174 of CrPC (police must enquire and report on the circumstances of death) and are in the process of taking an expert opinion to ascertain the cause of the old building&rsquo;s collapse.
According to Garud, another building is also being constructed beside the collapsed one.

The remarks were made at the Investors Conference held in the national capital.&nbsp;

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday said the State capital would be shifted to Visakhapatnam.
Addressing the preparatory meeting for the Global Investors Summit to be held in Visakhapatnam in March, Jagan said he would be shifting his office to the port city in the months to come.
"Here I am to invite you to Visakhapatnam which is going to be our capital in the days to come. I myself would also be shifting over to Visakhapatnam in the months to come," he said.
Amaravati is the present capital of Andhra Pradesh.
In November last year, Jagan Mohan Reddy government repealed the controversial AP Decentralisation and Inclusive Development of All Regions Act, 2020 intended to establish three capitals for the State.
The State government had proposed three capitals, Visakhapatnam (Executive capital), Amaravati (Legislative capital) and Kurnool (Judicial capital).
Jagan further said the State Government is organising the Global Investors Summit in Visakhapatnam on March 3 and 4 and requested the corporate community to take part in the meet and invest in the State.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the Vande Bharat Express train connecting Secunderabad with Visakhapatnam on Sunday via video conferencing.

"I am glad to flag off Vande Bharat Express between Secunderabad and Visakhapatnam. It will enhance 'Ease of Living', boost tourism and benefit the economy. It is a gift for the people of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh," PM Modi said on the occasion.
"Vande Bharat Express, in a way, will connect the shared culture and shared heritage of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The Vande Bharat Express signifies that India wants the best of everything. The Vande Bharat Express is a symbol of the resolve and potential of New India," PM said.
This is the eighth Vande Bharat Express train introduced by Indian Railways. According to the Ministry of Railways, the Vande Bharat Express train, connecting Secunderabad with Visakhapatnam, is the first one connecting the Telugu-speaking states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, covering a distance of around 700 km.&nbsp;

A local police officer said they were searching for the persons who committed the crime. Security has been stepped up in the area following the incident, he added.

Unidentified persons pelted stones at a coach of the new Vande Bharat train at the railway yard breaking a glass window, police said.

Preliminary investigation by the Railway Protection Force revealed that some children playing near the coach complex at Kancharapalem mischievously pelted stones at the train on Wednesday night resulting in the damage.
The Visakhapatnam police have joined the RPF in investigating the incident.

Upon its arrival in Visakhapatnam, the rake was moved to the new coach complex at Kancharapalem, where the incident happened, police said.
While the glass of a window was fully shattered, another suffered a minor crack, they added.

On June 3 too a similar incident occurred in the same place where more than 200 women workers fell unconscious after complaining of eyesore, nausea and vomiting.
It was then suspected that ammonia gas leaked from a nearby Porus Laboratories unit.
A team of experts from the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology in Hyderabad visited the lab and conducted tests to determine the cause of the leak while the AP Pollution Control Board ordered closure of the lab.
The Porus lab was shut down for a few days after the mishap but soon resumed activities.
On Tuesday too the women workers had nausea and vomiting.
The Brandix SEZ employs thousands of workers, mostly women, in the garment manufacturing units.
