The Election Commission on Sunday issued the "Certification of  Election" to NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar as the 14th vice president of India.

Dhankhar won with a huge vote share of 74.36 per cent, the highest in the last six vice-presidential elections, with 528 votes against Alva's 182 votes.

The Election Commission on Sunday issued a certificate announcing the election of NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar as the 14th vice president of India. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey signed the "Certification of the Election" of Dhankar.
A signed copy of the certificate was handed over to the Union Home Secretary by senior Deputy Election Commissioner Dharmendra Sharma and Narendra N Butolia, senior Principal Secretary in the EC, the poll panel said. It will be read out at the time of oath taking ceremony of the new vice president on August 11.
The term of incumbent M Venkaiah Naidu ends on August 10. Dhankhar won with a huge vote share of 74.36 per cent, the highest in the last six vice-presidential elections, with 528 votes against Alva's 182 votes.

Polling for the election of the vice president of India concluded on Saturday around 5 pm at Parliament House in New Delhi with over 90% votes. The ballots will be counted post-polling. By late Saturday evening, the returning officer will announce the name of the next vice president.

Among the two candidates in the fray, the NDA&rsquo;s Jagdeep Dhankar is set for an easy win with over 515 votes.

Among the two candidates in the fray, the NDA&rsquo;s Jagdeep Dhankar was supported by various regional parties including the Janata Dal (United), YSRCP, BSP, AIADMK, Shiv Sena, Shiromani Akali Dal and is set for an easy win with over 515 votes. He has a clear edge over the Opposition&rsquo;s Margaret Alva, who is supported by parties such as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and is likely to get over 200 votes.
For the 16th Vice-Presidential election, the Electoral College consists of 233 elected members of Rajya Sabha, 12 nominated members of Rajya Sabha, and 543 elected members of Lok Sabha, adding up to 788 members.&nbsp;

BSP chief Mayawati announces support to NDA's vice presidential candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar

The Mayawati-led party had also supported NDA's presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu.&nbsp;

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Wednesday announced her party's support for the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) vice presidential candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar.
Making the announcement on Twitter, she said, "Keeping in mind the larger public interest and the party movement, the Bahujan Samaj Party has decided to support Jagdeep Dhankhar in the vice presidential poll."
The BJP had last month named West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar, a Jat leader from Rajasthan with socialist background, as the ruling National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) vice presidential candidate.
The Mayawati-led party had also supported NDA's presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu.&nbsp;

Opposition parties on Sunday decided to field former Rajasthan governor Margaret Alva as their joint candidate for the Vice presidential election.
Alva (80) would file her nomination papers on Tuesday, July 19 which is the last date for filing nominations for the August 6 election.
The NDA has fielded West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar as its joint candidate for the post of Vice President.
The decision to field Alva was taken at a meeting of opposition leaders of 17 parties at the residence of NCP supremo Sharad Pawar.
"We have unanimously decided to field Margaret Alva as our joint candidate for the post of Vice President," Pawar announced after the two-hour meeting.
"Our collective thinking is Alva will file VP nomination on Tuesday," he added.
He said a total of 17 parties have unanimously taken the decision to field her and with the support of Trinamool Congress and Aam Aadmi Party, she will be the joint candidate of a total of 19 parties.
"We are trying to contact Mamata Banerjee and Arvind Kejriwal. Last time they supported our joint presidential candidate," he said, adding that even JMM is together with opposition parties in this election.
Shiv Sena's Sanjay Raut said, "We are all together in this election".
Among the attendees were Congress' Mallikarjun Kharge and Jairam Ramesh, CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury, CPI's D Raja and Binoy Viswam, Shiv Sena's Sanjay Raut, DMK's T R Baalu and Tiruchi Siva, SP's Ram Gopal Yadav, MDMK's Vaiko and TRS' K Keshava Rao.
The RJD's A D Singh, IMUL's E T Mohammed Basheer and Kerala Congress (M)'s Jose K. Mani were also present.
The numbers in the electoral college are firmly stacked in favour of the ruling NDA combine.
Unlike the presidential election when the opposition camp had announced their nominee Yashwant Sinha ahead of NDA's Droupadi Murmu, leading to several nonBJP parties including even Congress allies Shiv Sena and the JMM veering towards Murmu, this time the like-minded parties wanted to wait for the announcement of the NDA candidate.
The last date for filing of nominations for the VP election is July 19.

Congress veteran Margaret Alva is joint Opposition candidate for Vice-President
