Workers of right-wing organisations took out a massive rally in Mumbai on Sunday against 'love jihad' and demanded anti-conversion laws and a crackdown on land grabbing in the name of religion.
Leaders and workers of right-wing outfits such as the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) marched in the rally.
Hindu Jan Akrosh Morcha, organised by Sakal Hindu Samaj, began from Shivaji Park in Dadar in central Mumbai and culminated at Kamgar Maidan in Parel, covering a distance of more than 4 km.
Activists shouted slogans against "love jihad", and demanded anti-conversion laws and a crackdown on land grabbing in the name of religion.
Several leaders and MLAs of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and those of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena faction also participated in the rally.
Police personnel were deployed along the route of the march to prevent any untoward incident.
"Love jihad" is a term often used by the right-wing to allege a ploy by Muslim men to lure Hindu women into religious conversion through marriage.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had said last December that the government would study laws on "love jihad" framed by other states and take an appropriate decision.
He had also spoken about a "feeling" in the legislature regarding the Shraddha Walkar case that instances of "love jihad" are seen at a large scale in the state.

&lsquo;Pathaan&rsquo;, which is all set to release tomorrow, had to make several cuts, it revised the &lsquo;obscene song&rsquo; and &lsquo;lewd words&rsquo; in the film.
In a statement, Gujarat VHP&rsquo;s Ashok Rawal said, &lsquo;After the Bajrang Dal&rsquo;s protests against the Hindi film, Pathaan, the Censor Board has removed obscene lyrics and lewd words from the film, which is good news. I congratulate all workers and the entire Hindu society for this successful struggle to protect religion and culture.&rsquo;
While talking to PTI, he further said that the censor board has made 40 to 45 corrections related to songs, colour and clothes, which solve the problems and hence, they won&rsquo;t protest. Rawal said, &lsquo;Following the Bajrang Dal&rsquo;s protests against Pathaan, the Censor Board has revised the obscene song and unsavoury words in the film, which is good news. I congratulate all the activists and the entire Hindu community who fought this successful struggle for the protection of religion and culture&rsquo;.
He also said, &lsquo;I also request the Censor Board, producers, and theatre owners that, as an important part of the film industry, if they oppose such things keeping in mind the religion, culture and patriotism beforehand, the Bajrang Dal and other Hindu bodies will not have any objection,&rdquo; said the Gujarat VHP&rsquo;s regional leader. We leave it to the enlightened citizens of Gujarat to decide whether to watch the film or not.&rsquo;
Meanwhile, Pune City police have booked a group of Bajrang Dal activists for allegedly gathering illegally to protest against &lsquo;Pathaan&rsquo; at Rahula Cinema Hall in Shivajinagar.&nbsp; The Bajrang Dal activists reportedly gathered at the cinema hall on Sunday and allegedly tore posters of the movie.

Giving scheduled caste status to converted members of the community will open &ldquo;floodgates&rdquo; for religious conversions in the country, the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) said on Monday, days after the Centre appointed a commission to examine the issue.
The RSS affiliate claimed that demands for giving scheduled caste status to such persons have &ldquo;once again&rdquo; gained momentum, and announced that it will soon launch a nationwide campaign against any such move.
The VHP will also put forth its view before the commission appointed by the Union government to look into the issue, its joint general secretary Surendra Jain said at a press conference here.
The Centre on October 6 appointed a commission headed by former Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan to examine the matter of giving scheduled caste status to people who claim to &ldquo;historically&rdquo; have belonged to the community, but have converted to a religion other than those mentioned in the Presidential orders.

The three-member commission also includes retired IAS officer Ravinder Kumar Jain and member UGC Sushma Yadav, according to a gazette notification issued by the Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry.
&ldquo;If reservation benefits are extended to converted members of the scheduled caste, it will open floodgates for (religious) conversions in the country. All jobs then will go to the scheduled caste members,&rdquo; Jain told reporters, adding that the VHP is "very much concerned because such things should not happen&rdquo;.
The VHP will soon launch a nationwide public awareness campaign as demands for giving scheduled caste status to converted members of the community has once again gained momentum, he said.

An FIR has been filed against the organisers of an event in the national capital where some speakers allegedly had made hate speeches, Delhi Police said on Monday.
"An FIR has been registered against the organisers under IPC Sec 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) for not taking permission from police," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahadra) R Sathiyasundaram.
The event was organised by several Hindu right outfits, including the Vishva Hindu Parishad.
VHP spokesperson Vinod Bansal said it was laughable that police was saying no permission taken for the programme in which thousands were present, including the police, which was deployed there.
"Let alone permission, we fixed the venue at Ramleela Ground in Dilshad Garden after suggestion and recommendation by senior police officers. We earlier had planned to hold the gathering near Manish's house but on the request of police changed it to Ramlila Maidan," Bansal claimed.
Delhi BJP MP Parvesh Verma courted controversy on Sunday after he allegedly called for total boycott of a community at an event held to protest the killing of a Hindu youth in northeast Delhi.
Manish (19) was stabbed to death in Sundar Nagri earlier this month.
Police have arrested all the accused in the case -- Aalam, Bilal and Faizan -- and have said they killed the youth in an old rivalry.
In a purported video of the event, Verma could be heard saying, "Wherever you find them, there is only one way to straighten them out -- total boycott. Do you agree with me?"
The Delhi Police had on Sunday said it is obtaining the details of the event held in east Delhi's Dilshad Garden and added that no permission was taken for organising it.
No immediate reaction was available from Verma, who is the BJP MP from West Delhi.
Verma could be seen in the purported video seeking an answer from the crowd about his call for "total boycott" of the community and asking them to raise their hands if they agreed with him.
"We will not buy anything from their shops or pay them any wages. This is the only treatment for them," he can be heard saying in the video.

The footage further shows one of the three grabbing Manish by his collar and slapping him. The other two also join in, and start stabbing Manish with knives.

The Vishva Hindu Parishad on Wednesday raised objections to the portrayal of Lord Ram, Lakshman and Ravana in the teaser of 'Adipurush', claiming that it "ridiculed Hindu society".
The organisation also warned that the film would not be allowed to be screened in theatres.
Ajay Sharma, Prachar Pramukh of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad's (VHP) Sambhal unit, told reporters here that the way in which Lord Ram, Ravana and Lakshman had been portrayed in 'Adipurush' was a mockery of Hinduism.
"The values ??of Hindu society have been ridiculed. Hindu society will not tolerate this," he said.
'Adipurush', a big budget adaptation of the Ramayana, is fronted by 'Baahubali' star Prabhas, who features as Lord Ram. It is scheduled to release next year.
Sharma said the way Ravana had been depicted was not in line with the Ramayana and related religious scriptures.
"The VHP will not allow this film to be screened in theatres," he added.
Expressing his displeasure at the Central Board of Film Certification, the VHP leader said the board was working in an arbitrary and irresponsible manner.
"If the board is not able to perform its duties, then the government should dissolve it," he said.
A 1.46-minute teaser of the film, directed by Om Raut, was launched on Sunday in Ayodhya. And the blowback was immediate with hashtags like #BoycottAdipurush and #BanAdipurush gaining speed.
The multilingual period saga sees Saif Ali Khan play the role of a 10-headed demon king called Lankesh. With a beard, fierce eyes and a buzz cut, this Lankesh seems barbarism personified and many called out the filmmakers for the apparent Islamisation of Ravana.

The VHP's Delhi unit on Monday called on people in the city to assemble in temples and participate in mass recitations of Hanuman Chalisa on June 14 to register protest against the June 10 violence in parts of the country.
In a statement, the Vishva Hindu Parishad alleged violent demonstrations were held and stones pelted at temples and houses after prayers in mosques on June 10 as part of a well-planned conspiracy to defame India globally.
Protests erupted in several parts of the country, including outside Delhi's Jama Masjid, on June 10 against the controversial remarks on Prophet Mohammad by now-sacked BJP functionaries Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal.
In Jharkhand, some policemen were injured while trying to control demonstrators, while authorities in Jammu imposed a curfew in a few areas. In parts of Uttar Pradesh, protesters pelted the police with stones prompting the latter to baton charge them and use tear gas shells.
"Illegal fatwas were issued for the killing of Nupur Sharma... The Hindu society rejects and strongly condemns the pressure that was built on the Hindu society due to such illegal demonstrations," Delhi VHP chief Kapil Khanna said in the statement.
"To protest against this, I call upon the Hindu society of Delhi to assemble at small and big temples in the city and participate in mass recitation of Hanuman Chalisa at 8.00 pm tomorrow (June 14, 2022)," he added.
Khanna also urged managers and priests of temples to put up notices informing devotees about the mass recitation of Hanuman Chalisa.
"It is absolutely necessary to showcase our strength in such a manner and constitutionally respond to the unethical pressure being built on the Hindu society," he said.
"To get rid of such kind of jihad, we must gather in our temples at least once a week," he said.

The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Friday hit out at the Congress after two temples was demolished in Rajasthan ruled by the party, saying people of the state will take out its final journey for “insulting” the god in such a manner.
In a video message, the saffron outfit's national spokesperson Vinod Bansal said the demolition of the temple in Alwar district of Rajasthan has exposed the Congress' “character” and “tears that it sheds for the jihadis".
"The day rioters attacked at Hanuman Jayanti procession in Jahangirpuri in Delhi, the very next day the Congress government demolished a 300-year-old temple in Rajasthan," the VHP leader said.
He lashed out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and party's Delhi unit chief Anil Kumar for not saying a word on the demolition in Rajasthan.
"When bulldozers are run over rioters, congress prince tweets from abroad and the party state unit chief goes to meet the rioters but they do not say a word on the demolition of this 300 years old temple in Rajasthan.
“The Congress' character and the tears for that it sheds for the ‘jihadis’ has been exposed,” he said.
"Hindu society will not tolerate it any more. They should understand that that people of Rajasthan will take out their ‘shav yatra’ (final journey) for the way they have insulted the god," Bansal added.

Two temples and some shops were demolished on Sunday and Monday with officials describing the action a part of an anti-encroachment drive to widen a road in the town.
They said the demolition was approved by the Rajgarh Nagar Palika Board headed by the BJP and denied any damage to the idols or the sanctum sanctorum of the temples.
Alwar collector Nakate Shivprasad Madan said the proposal was passed by the Nagar Palika board and the action was taken in accordance with the decision of the local administration in the presence of police.
“In the meeting of the board headed by its chairman, a proposal to remove encroachments was passed. The executive officer accordingly issued notices and then the demolition was done,” the collector said.
Rajgarh SDM Keshav Meena said one temple was completely demolished but the owners of the temples had removed the idols.
The second temple was partially demolished but its sanctum sanctorum is safe, he added.
“The one-km stretch of the road is 50 to 54 feet wide in the master plan but it had been reduced to 25-28 feet at present due to encroachments. Encroachments from half of the road were removed earlier and the remaining encroachments were demolished on Sunday and Monday,” Meena said.
Other encroachments were mainly due to shops, he added.
Rajasthan BJP president Satish Poonia accused the Congress of being behind the demolition, with state Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasra countering him saying the decision was made by the city's municipality headed by the saffron party.
BJP's Rajya Sabha member Kirodi Mal Meena reached Rajgarh on Friday and sat on a dharna in front of a police station there protesting the demolition.
Poonia alleged that videos on social media showed a bulldozer demolishing the 300-year-old Shiva temple in Udaipur.
“It is in the public domain that all these actions were taken at the behest of the state government,” he claimed without elaborating.
The party has also formed a "fact-finding committee" headed by Sikar MP Swami Sumedhanand, he added.
“They will give me a report in three days,” he said. The committee has five members including Sumedhanand.
Deputy Leader of Opposition Rajendra Rathore accused Rajgarh's Congress MLA Johari Lal Meena of being involved in the matter.
Claiming that the idols were damaged, Alwar MP Balaknath accused Rajasthan's Congress government of hurting people's sentiment and working to appease a particular community.
Urban Development Minister Shanti Dhariwal held a press conference along with Food and Civil Supply Minister Pratap Singh Khachariawas to deny the BJP allegations.
No one opposed when the structures were demolished and now a communal atmosphere is being deliberately created, he said.
He said the government is examining the matter and has sought a report.
“The proposal to remove the encroachment was passed in the meeting of the BJP board in Rajgarh Nagar Palika. They demolished it and are now blaming the Congress,” Dhariwal told reporters.
Rejecting Poonia's allegations, PCC chief Dotasra accused the BJP of misleading people and playing politics over religion.
“It is the habit of the BJP and RSS to do bad things and spread communal frenzy. One temple was private but its idols were removed. The second temple was partially demolished but its sanctum sanctorum is safe,” Dotasara said.
He said even during the rule of the former BJP government headed by Vasundhara Raje, hundreds of temples were demolished in Jaipur.
Dotasra asserted that the Congress government does not target any religious place.

Pictures and videos of such posters, allegedly put up by the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and its youth wing, Bajrang Dal, also surfaced on social media platforms.
The Varanasi police has taken note of the matter and launched a probe, officials said.
"The matter is being probed by the local Bhelupur police station. The people who were seen in the videos and pictures are being identified," a police official told PTI.
"So far, no written complaint has been made with the police. However, the police took note of the episode after some local groups highlighted it. The posters are being removed with their help," he added.

Considered among the oldest cities in the world, Varanasi is also the Lok Sabha constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"Non-Hindus violate the purity of the ghats. That is why this warning has been issued to them," Bajrang Dal's Kashi mahanagar coordinator Nikhil Tripathi "Rudra" told PTI.
He said the warning to stay away from the ghats is for those who do not have faith in the Sanatan Dharma and alleged that such people consume liquor and non-vegetarian food at the ghats.
"Recently, pictures of girls consuming beer at a ghat had surfaced. The ghats and the temples are symbols of the Sanatan Dharma. These are not picnic spots. If any such person is seen at the ghats, we will catch hold of them and hand them over to the police," Tripathi added.
