Kesavananda Bharati, seer behind basic rights doctrine, dies

Kesavananda Bharati, a petitioner in the historic case that led to the Supreme Court evolving the doctrine of basic structure of the Constitution, has died. The 79-year old head of the Edneer&nbsp;Mutt&nbsp;in Kerala's&nbsp;Kasargod&nbsp;died&nbsp;&nbsp;due to age related ailments on Sunday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi&nbsp;tweeted that the seer deeply attached to the Constitution and he will be remembered for his service to the community and the downtrodden. Vice-President Venkaiah&nbsp;Naidu&nbsp;said that Bharati&nbsp;was a rare blend philosopher, classical singer and cultural icon. A case filed by him in 1970s led to a Supreme Court judgement that said that while Parliament had the powers to amend the Constitution, it can't change its basic structure.&nbsp;
