India on its way to go trans fat free by 2022: Harsh Vardhan

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan&nbsp;on Friday announced that India is on its way to eliminate trans fats from its supply chain completely by 2022.&nbsp;
Speaking at a FSSAI&nbsp;event to commemorate World Food Day, Vardhan&nbsp;said, 'Trans fat is a modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVD). And eliminating CVD risk factor is especially relevant during Covid-19.'&nbsp;
A food toxin present in partially hydrogenated vegetable oils (PHVOs) (e.g. vanaspati, shortening, margarine, etc.), baked and fried foods, trans fat is a major contributor to the rise in non-communicable diseases in India.

Covid cases may surge in winter, says health minister Vardhan

Covid19 cases might see a surge in India during winters, says Harsh Vardhan&nbsp;

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan Sunday hinted that India may see an increase in the&nbsp;Covid-19&nbsp;transmission rate during winter. The Minister&rsquo;s comments came in the backdrop of several reports which indicated that&nbsp;coronavirus&nbsp;cases will surge in the colder weather since respiratory illnesses tend to thrive during cooler weather conditions.&nbsp;Addressing his weekly social media interaction programme Sunday Samvaad, Vardhan stated that SARS-CoV-2&mdash;which causes Covid-19 infection&mdash; is a respiratory virus and the transmission of respiratory viruses is known to increase in the colder weather.

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Sunday expressed hope that we should have "very significant control" over Covid-19 by Diwali. Addressing a webinar, he said experts will probably agree that after some time this will also become endemic like many other viruses which have come to the globe in the past. He, however, added that the virus has taught us that there has to be a new normal and we need to be more diligent about, more cautious about our lifestyle. The minister also expressed hope about having a vaccine against Covid-19 by the end of this year.

Bengaluru, PTI: Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Sunday expressed hope that we should have "very significant control" over Covid-19 by Diwali. "...hopefully that in the next couple of months, maybe by Diwali time, we should have a very significant control over the coronavirus," Mr Vardhan said.
Addressing the Nation First webinar series organised by Ananthkumar Foundation, he said experts like Dr Devi Prasad Shetty and Dr C N Manjnath will probably agree that after some time this will also become endemic like many other viruses which have come to the globe in the past.
"But, the virus has taught us a certain lesson, it has taught us there has to be a new normal and we need to be more diligent about, more cautious about our lifestyle...," he added.
Mr Vardhan also expressed hope about having a vaccine against Covid-19 by the end of this year.
"We are not lagging behind anyone else in the whole world in our efforts to contribute towards the vaccine against Covid... In India we have about 7-8 vaccine candidates, three of them in the clinical trial phases and rest in the pre-clinical trials and by the end of this year we hope to be able to get a vaccine against Covid," he said.
The Minister said there was only one lab in February which has now increased to 1,583 nationwide, and out of this more than 1,000 are government labs.
