Uttar Pradesh has administered 1.58 crore doses of lumpy virus vaccine &ndash; claimed to be the highest in the country &ndash; to its cattle in less than two months, officials said on Wednesday.
The initiative has controlled the spread of the virus to the extent that it is as good as eliminated from the state, they said, even as cattle in different parts of the country continue to become infected by it.
UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had formed a unit, called &lsquo;Team-9,&rsquo; in the first week of August, taking serious note of the skin infection in cattle in other states, for an effective vaccination campaign.
Under the operation, several officers of the team visited Bareilly, Moradabad, Meerut, Saharanpur, Agra, and Aligarh divisions of the state.
The government was also supported in its campaign by an active cooperation of students of veterinary science colleges and private vaccination workers.
The process of vaccination was started with 25 affected districts of Paschimanchal (Western UP) of the state.
It was started with the creation of a 320 km-long and 10 km-wide vaccination belt between Pilibhit and Etawah, to contain the spread of the virus from Paschimanchal (Western UP) to Central and Eastern UP, officials said.
Later, a 155 km vaccination belt was also set up from Etawah to Auraiya, they said.
Initially, a target of 2 lakh vaccines per day was set, which was later increased to 3 to 4 lakh.
The government deployed altogether 2,000 teams and set up 89 dedicated cow medical centres in 26 districts to administer 1.58 crore vaccinations in the state in less than two months, a senior official said.
The government gave priority to vaccination of cattle in the inter-district and inter-state border areas, while also inoculating cattle across the cow shelters and cowsheds on a large scale.
Having tackled districts in the western and central Uttar Pradesh, the vaccination campaign proceeded to protect cattle in Bundelkhand, and then finally to eastern Uttar Pradesh.

So far, less than 1 percent of the target population of 77 crore in the 18-59 age group have been administered the precaution dose, an official source said.

As part of a 75-day special drive, the Union government is set to rollout free precaution doses of the Covid-19 vaccine for people in the 18-59 age group at government vaccination centres from July 15 onwards, official sources said on Wednesday.
The drive, aimed at boosting the uptake of Covid precaution doses, will be held as part of the government's Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to celebrate the 75th anniversary of India's Independence.
So far, less than 1 percent of the target population of 77 crore in the 18-59 age group have been administered the precaution dose. However, around 26 percent of the estimated 16 crore eligible population aged 60 and above as well as healthcare and frontline workers have received the booster dose, an official source said.
"A majority of the Indian population got their second dose over nine months ago. Studies at ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) and other international research institutions have suggested that antibody levels wane around six months after the primary vaccination with both doses... giving a booster increases the immune response," the official said.
"The government is therefore planning to start a special drive for 75 days during which individuals aged between 18 and 59 years will be administered precaution doses for free at government vaccination centres starting from July 15," he said.
The Union Health Ministry last week reduced the gap between the second and precaution dose of COVID-19 vaccine for all beneficiaries from nine to six months. This followed a recommendation from the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI).
To accelerate the pace of vaccination and encourage booster shots, the government initiated the second round of the 'Har Ghar Dastak campaign 2.0' across states and Union Territories on June 1. The two-month programme is currently underway.
According to government data, 96 percent of India's population has been administered the first dose of Covid vaccine while 87 percent of the people have taken both doses.
On April 10 2022, India began administering precaution doses of COVID-19 vaccines to all aged above 18 years.
The countrywide vaccination drive had rolled out on January 16 last year with healthcare workers getting inoculated in the first phase. Vaccination of frontline workers started from February 2 last year.

On March 1 last year, COVID-19 vaccination began for people over 60 years of age and those aged 45 and above with specified comorbid conditions. &nbsp;Vaccination for all people aged more than 45 years began on April 1 last year. The government then decided to expand the ambit of the vaccination drive by allowing everyone above 18 years to be inoculated against Covid from May 1 last year.
Inoculation of those in the age group of 15-18 commenced on January 3 this year. The country began inoculating children aged 12-14 from March 16.&nbsp;

The expert panel, in its last meeting in April, had sought more data from the Pune-based firm over the application.
The DCGI had approved Covovax for restricted use in emergency situations in adults on December 28 and in the 12 to 17 years age group subject to certain conditions on March 9.

The Supreme Court on Monday said that no person can be forced to get vaccinated against Covid-19 and asked the Centre to make public the effect of such an immunisation.&nbsp;
A two-judge bench said bodily autonomy and integrity are protected under Article 21 of the Constitution.&nbsp;
The top court said the current Covid-19 vaccine policy cannot be said to be manifestly arbitrary and unreasonable.&nbsp;
The bench said that till the numbers are low, relevant orders should be followed and no restriction should be imposed on unvaccinated individuals on access to public areas.&nbsp;
About the segregation of vaccine trial data, the bench said that subject to the privacy of the individuals, all data of trials&nbsp;conducted and to be conducted in future must be made available to the public immediately. &nbsp;
The apex court also directed the Union of India to publish reports on adverse events of vaccines on a publicly accessible system without compromising data of individuals.&nbsp;

 This very idea that Djokovic holds dear…. has its roots very deep in his upbringing… Raised as an orthodox Christian in war-torn Serbia, the world no 1’s long-held belief in alternative medicine seems to have fuelled this resistance… 
As ridiculous as it might seem, Novak Djokovic also has a track record of questionable “scientific” beliefs 
Believe it or not…. In his book Serve to Win, Djokovic described how in 2010, a Serbian, Dr Igor Cetojevic, who calls himself a “specialist in energetic medicine”, once pressed a piece of bread against his stomach…to infer he had a gluten allergy. 
Later during an Instagram live, he claimed that positive thought could "cleanse" polluted water, adding that "scientists have proven that molecules in water react to our emotions." 
Djokovic says he has been keen on finding what he calls, “basic ways to survive”, without having to get into “outside intervention”.  
Is Djokovic the new hero for anti-vaxxers? 
While fans have come to Djokovic’s defense, the visa dispute in Australia and his comments on vaccination, have galvanised the anti-vaxxers to hail him as a hero, even though Djokovic has never explicitly come out in support of anti-vaxxers.  
Novak Djokovic in a recent interview now says, he is willing to miss tournaments to avoid Covid vaccination… 
“The principles of decision-making on my body are more important than any title, or anything else” For Djokovic, not taking vaccines may be about his personal choice…but for an influential sportsperson of his stature, who has the power to shape the opinions of millions, Djokovic’s stance has been rather myopic….and that is where his beliefs stand in conflict with his identity as a sporting icon of our times. 
But that’s the thing about stars….we always put them on a pedestal…. but that… only makes their fall from grace … fueled by their beliefs, even more shocking.

India may begin inoculating children in the 12-14 age group against Covid-19 in March as the 15-18 population is likely to get fully vaccinated by then, Dr N K Arora, chairman of the Covid-19 working group of National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation, said on Monday.
Of the estimated 7.4 crore population in the 15-18 age bracket, over 3.45 crore have received the first dose of Covaxin so far and their second dose is due in 28 days, he said.
"Adolescents in this age group have been actively participating in the inoculation process, and going by this pace of vaccination, the rest of the beneficiaries in the 15-18 age group are likely to be covered with the first dose by January-end and subsequently their second dose is expected to be done by February-end," Dr NK Arora said. 
Once the 15-18 age group is covered, he said, the government is likely to take a policy decision for initiating the vaccination drive for the 12-14 age group in March, he said.
According to him, there is an estimated 7.5 crore population in the 12-14 age group.
