Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the site of the ongoing four-lane road project leading to the Nepali dry port along the India-Nepal border at Banbasa on Sunday.&nbsp;
During his visit, the Chief Minister checked the progress of the construction and provided necessary instructions to ensure the quality of work and adherence to the project&rsquo;s timeline.
In a statement, Dhami emphasized the significance of this road, stating, "This road to be built from Banbasa to the Nepal border is very important from a strategic, business, and defense perspective. Its construction work is being carried out by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI)."
The project, which involves the construction of a 3.06 km long road, has already seen 7.28 hectares of land being transferred to NHAI. The initial approval for the project was granted at Rs 177 crore, but due to geographical and technical challenges, the estimated cost is expected to increase by Rs 80 crore, potentially bringing the total budget to Rs 250 crore. The work, which began in March 2023, was initially scheduled to be completed by 2024, but due to natural disasters, including floods, it is now expected to be finished by 2027.
The project includes the construction of a flyover, a major bridge, and two smaller bridges. Dhami further noted that this road would enhance international trade and movement in the India-Nepal border region. He directed the officials to ensure that the construction proceeds swiftly and meets the required standards of transparency and quality.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami conducted an inspection of the Gram Panchayat Devipura in the Banbasa area of Champawat district on Saturday.
During his visit, locals raised concerns about severe erosion caused by the Sania drain and the presence of crocodiles in the water body, which has created widespread fear and insecurity in the region, according to an official statement.
Taking immediate cognizance of the issue, CM Dhami instructed officials from the Forest and Irrigation Departments to act without delay. Acting on his directives, a JCB machine was deployed within an hour, and the drain cleaning work was swiftly initiated and completed by the Irrigation Department.
Emphasising the urgency of addressing such risks, Dhami said, "The safety of the public is paramount, and the administration should take prompt and effective action to deal with such dangers." He further directed authorities to carry out regular monitoring to ensure the drain remains safe and well-maintained.
Later, the Chief Minister also inspected the road leading to the India-Nepal border in Banbasa. Residents of Devipura expressed their gratitude for his swift response and thanked him for prioritising their safety.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said on Sunday that the Indian armed forces, with their indomitable courage, valour and strategy, forced Pakistan to kneel.
On the occasion of the inauguration of the Harbansh Kapoor Memorial Community Hall at the Garhi Cantt here in the memory of the late BJP MLA, Dhami said, "Our armed forces have given a befitting reply to the Pahalgam terror attack and completely destroyed the terrorist hideouts located in Pakistan. The Indian Army has given a befitting reply to the nefarious activities of the enemy." The current MLA of the constituency and the late MLA&rsquo;s widow Savita Kapoor was also present on the occasion.
The chief minister said that due to the strong leadership and clear policy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, strong action has been taken against terrorism.
"The central government follows the policy of &lsquo;nation first&rsquo;. For us, the nation is first," he said.
Dhami said that in the last three years, more than 23000 youths have been given government jobs and this process will continue uninterrupted in the future as well.

Following guidance from the Central Health Ministry, Uttarakhand Health Secretary R Rajesh Kumar issued a set of operational guidelines, instructing the state to reserve 12,000 beds in all hospitals and ensure that all ICUs and ventilators are fully operational.
In light of India's ongoing Operation Sindoor, which is targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan, the borders of Uttarakhand adjoining Nepal and China have also been placed on high alert.&nbsp;
The skies over Dehradun were active with Indian Air Force planes flying from 1 am to 3 am, causing curiosity among local residents due to the loud noise. People in the area observed the aircraft in the skies throughout the night.
On the military front, the Indian Army successfully shot down over 50 Pakistani drones during a large-scale counter-drone operation along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) on the night of May 8-9.
The operation was prompted by Pakistan's attempts to send multiple swarm drones into Indian territory, which were promptly neutralized by the Indian Army Air Defence units. The Army's countermeasures included a range of advanced air defence systems, such as L-70 guns, Zu-23mm, Schilka systems, and other equipment designed to target aerial threats.
Drones were reportedly intercepted in areas such as Udhampur, Samba, Jammu, Akhnoor, Nagrota, and Pathankot. The Army's swift response successfully prevented the drones from reaching their intended targets.

Uttarakhand has successfully secured ₹1,910 crore in funding from the European Investment Bank (EIB) to boost urban infrastructure development across the state, officials confirmed on Thursday.
The funding marks a major milestone for the state under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
In a statement, CM Dhami highlighted the government's ongoing focus on infrastructure improvement. "We are continuously working for the development of infrastructure facilities in the state. The proposed scheme will promote cleanliness along with the supply of pure drinking water in the urban areas benefiting from it," he said.
The agreement follows a series of negotiations between the Government of India, the Uttarakhand government, and the EIB. Project discussions were held for initiatives proposed under the Uttarakhand Urban Sector Development Agency (UUSDA), with a focus on Pithoragarh, Sitarganj, Rudrapur, and Kashipur.
The proposed funding will cover drinking water and sewerage projects in Pithoragarh, and drinking water systems in Sitarganj, Rudrapur, and Kashipur. Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for these works have already been prepared and reviewed by the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), Ministry of Finance, which subsequently shared them with the EIB.
The DEA and EIB officially approved the projects during a virtual meeting on Thursday, where representatives including Mrs. Aparna Bhatia (DEA), Mr. Maximilian (EIB), and Chandresh Kumar, Secretary of the Uttarakhand Government, participated in discussions.
During the meeting, both the EIB and the DEA commended UUSDA for its comprehensive project preparation and presentation. It was decided that the project agreements will be signed in June 2025, after which the tender process will commence.
Program Director Chandresh Kumar emphasized the importance of such developments, particularly in border regions. "Availability of drinking water and sanitation services is very important in a border town like Pithoragarh. These basic facilities improve the standard of living, which accelerates the overall development of the state," he said.
The agreement is seen as a significant step forward in enhancing urban living standards and strengthening critical infrastructure in key towns across Uttarakhand.

Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami met Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Bhupendra Yadav to seek approvals and funding for major road, environmental, and tourism-related projects including CAMPA aid and NH upgrades.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi on Thursday to discuss several key infrastructure and road development projects concerning the state.&nbsp;
During the meeting, CM Dhami pressed for the early reimbursement of ₹367.69 crore under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund and sought approval for the proposed Rishikesh bypass project.
He also requested that the road from Biharigarh to Roshanabad and the Kathgodam&ndash;Pancheshwar route be notified as National Highways. Additionally, he urged the Centre to approve an elevated road over the Bindal and Rispana rivers as a loop of NH-07.
Highlighting regional development priorities, the Chief Minister pushed for funding to upgrade 20 roads covering a distance of 508 km under the Manaskhand project, which connects mythological temples. He also sought reimbursement for additional costs incurred due to the realignment of NH-109.
Furthermore, Dhami appealed for financial approval of ₹110 crore for the Metro corridor and the proposed elevated road along NH-07. Expressing optimism, he said he was thankful for the "positive assurance for all the projects" given by the Union Minister.
Earlier in the day, CM Dhami also held a meeting with Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav. In that discussion, he emphasized the urgent need for environmental clearances and land transfer for major projects like the 120 MV Sirkari Bhyol Rupasiyabagh Hydroelectric Project on the Gauriganga River, which he called "vital for the state's energy needs and development."
The Chief Minister also sought approval from the National Wildlife Board (NBWL) for a proposed ropeway between Triveni Ghat in Rishikesh and Neelkanth Mahadev Temple, along with support for reviving Chaurasi Kutiya, popularly known as the Beatles Ashram&mdash;a site of cultural and tourism importance.
To address the state&rsquo;s persistent forest fire problem, CM Dhami requested special financial assistance of ₹404 crore under the CAMPA (Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority) scheme. He emphasized the dual objectives of environmental protection and infrastructure growth, stating that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi&rsquo;s leadership, "the state government is balancing ecological conservation with economic development."
He added that these combined efforts "would not only enhance infrastructure but also provide much-needed relief to the common people."

&ldquo;Very sad news has been received about some casualties in a helicopter crash near Gangani in Uttarkashi. The tragic incident took place near Ganganani in the border district of Uttarkashi and involved a helicopter carrying six passengers and its captain. Five people reportedly lost their lives while several others were injured in the crash. Visuals from the site revealed the wreckage of the chopper&rsquo;s interior.
Garhwal Divisional Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said that rescue and relief teams were immediately dispatched after receiving information about the crash. These teams were involved in assisting the injured and carrying out rescue operations. The cause of the accident is yet to be established.
The crash occurred amid the ongoing Chardham Yatra, which began on April 31. The portals of Kedarnath Dham were opened on May 2, followed by Badrinath temple on May 4.

The drills were also meant to create awareness among people about how to keep themselves safe during an emergency, an official here said.
"It is a drill to test our preparedness to ensure public safety and not to cause panic," Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan said.
Dhara Police Chowki, Blind School Rajpur Road, Lakhkhibagh Police Station, Collectorate Dehradun, Inter State Bus Terminal and Araghar Police Chowki were among the locations where the drills were conducted.
Secretary Home Shailesh Bagauli, Director General of Police Deepam Seth and Secretary Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Vinod Kumar Suman monitored the drill from the State Emergency Operations Centre here.
Dehradun District Magistrate Savin Bansal and his entire team remained virtually connected to the State Emergency Operations Centre to give their superiors information about the drills.&nbsp;

Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed enhanced security for the Chardham Yatra and vital national sites in response to the recent Indian military strikes on terror camps.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday asked officials to step up security for the ongoing Chardham Yatra and important establishments, dams and power plants in the state in view of the circumstances arising out of the missile strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and PoK by the Indian military.
The chief minister issued the instructions after participating in a virtual meeting of Union Home Minister Amit Shah with the chief ministers of border states after the Indian military launched attacks on terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in the early hours of Wednesday.
Soon after virtually attending the home minister's meeting, Dhami held a meeting with senior officials and asked them to be on alert.
Strong security arrangements should be made in all areas adjoining the international borders of the state and suspicious activities should be kept under strict surveillance, the chief minister said at the meeting.
In view of the Chardham Yatra going on at present in the state, for which lakhs of pilgrims are coming from the country and abroad, special security arrangements should be made in all the four Dhams as well as along the Yatra route, he said.
Necessary steps should also be taken to tighten security around many establishments of national importance located in the state, he said.
He instructed all the district magistrates (DMs) and superintendents of police (SPs) to review the security arrangements in their respective areas.
He also gave instructions to maintain the supply of essential commodities including food grains at the district and tehsil level to deal with any kind of emergency and to keep the hospitals ready with adequate availability of essential medicines.
Dhami said people should be provided with correct and authentic information so that rumours do not spread.
He also directed officials to keep a constant watch on it through social media and take strict action against those spreading rumours.&nbsp;

CM Dhami highlighted that the MMUs will be operational six days a week, offering diagnostic and treatment facilities in alignment with the state's 'Healthy Uttarakhand, Prosperous Uttarakhand' mission.&nbsp;
"These MMUs will help provide primary health services in remote areas of the state," he said.&nbsp;
The MMUs will be operated by Common Service Centres (CSC) and funded by the Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. The Uttarakhand government has imposed a 24-hour ban on the use of horses and mules on the Kedarnath pilgrimage route after 14 animals died of a mystery illness in two days.
Eight horses and mules died on the route on May 4 and six the day after, BVRC Purushottam, the animal husbandry department secretary, said on Tuesday.
A team of experts from the Centre will arrive to examine the animals to ascertain the reason behind such a large number of deaths, he said.
Some bacterial infection is suspected, the officer added.
Horses and mules are used to ferry pilgrims to the Himalayan shrine.
Purushottam said though he did not think equine influenza was the cause of death, the possibility could not be entirely ruled out.
"The exact cause of death will be known only after a team of experts from the Centre examines them. For the time being, a 24-hour ban has been imposed on the use of horses and mules on the Kedarnath route he said.
An equine influenza case was reported first on April 4 and, by April 30, samples from 16,000 horses were screened. Of these, 152 horses had tested positive, he said.
But even their samples returned a negative result in the RTPCR test.
When the 24-hour ban is lifted, only horses and mules that test negative will be allowed to be used on the pilgrimage route.
Those who have recovered from the bacterial infection 15-16 days after contracting it will also be allowed, the officer said.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday urged the youths to step forward and counter the "lies" being spread about the Uniform Civil Code of Uttarakhand Act, which he termed a "constitutional tool" to wipe off caste, religion and gender-based discriminations.
He sought to defend the mandatory registration of live-in relationships under the code, against which multiple court challenges have been registered, saying the concept is a contemporary reality and not part of the age-old Indian culture.
This provision for live-in couples is only meant to provide them safety, the chief minister said and cited the 2022 brutal murder of Shraddha Walkar by her live-in partner in Delhi as an example of ugly turns such alliances can take.
Addressing a workshop on the UCC Act at the Dev Sanskriti Vishwa Vidyalaya in Haridwar, Dhami said implementing the law that aims for uniformity in society while ensuring equal rights and responsibilities for all citizens had been the BJP's ideological commitment since the days of the Jan Sangh.
"It is a necessary reform that will benefit the entire society. It is not against any religion or sect and does not target anyone." He said the law safeguards the property inheritance rights of women and also protects the rights of children born out of live-in relationships on their father's property.
It empowers women by putting an end to evil practices like 'halala', 'iddat', polygamy and child marriage, Dhami said.
"But some people are spreading all sorts of lies, one of which is that registration on the UCC website will help outsiders get domicile certificates. It is an absolute lie, there is no such provision in the law," he asserted.
Dhami urged the youths in attendance at the workshop at the Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya, a private university, to support the government in busting the "wrong notions" being spread about the law.
"Just like the Ganga that originates in Uttarakhand and gives life to the country, all of India will benefit from the Gangotri of UCC which has sprung in this state," the chief minister said.
Uttarakhand implemented the UCC Act on January 27, becoming the first state in the country to do so.
The UCC has been on the BJP's agenda nationally for many years. But the party's government in Uttarakhand became the first to take a concrete step towards implementing it just before the Lok Sabha elections last year. Now, the UCC Act of Uttarakhand might serve as a template for other BJP-run states to enact similar legislation.
Uttarakhand Education Minister Dhan Singh Rawat said seminars on the the law will be held in all the universities of the state with a target of informing 5 lakh students about the benefits of it in three months.

The sacred portals of Shri Kedarnath Dham were thrown open to devotees on Friday, two days after the commencement of the Char Dham Yatra. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was present at the shrine to welcome pilgrims and oversee the arrangements.
Addressing the gathering at the shrine, CM Dhami said the Char Dham Yatra began on April 30 and that the doors of Badrinath Dham would open on May 2. &ldquo;Char Dham Yatra has started on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya on 30th April... Two days from today, the doors of Lord Badrinath Vishal will also open, and the yatra will start in full swing. We have tried to ensure that the journey of the devotees is safe and they do not face any kind of trouble during the journey, and for this, we have made appropriate arrangements,&rdquo; he said.
The spiritual atmosphere was further elevated as flower petals were showered on devotees from a helicopter, and the Indian Army Band played devotional music for the pilgrims.
Speaking on the nation&rsquo;s current challenges, CM Dhami said prayers were also offered in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking divine strength to combat terrorism and separatism.
&ldquo;Today, we have also done puja here in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Today, issues like terrorism and separatism, which are in front of us, Baba will give strength to our Prime Minister and the enemies, demons who did such an incident in Pahalgam will be finished,&rdquo; he said.
Meanwhile, the Panchmukhi Doli of Lord Kedarnath arrived at the temple on Thursday. Echoes of &lsquo;Jai Baba Kedar&rsquo; filled the Kedar Valley as the idol made its way to the temple from Gaurikund.
Sharing the moment on social media, the chief minister posted, &ldquo;Today, after the ritualistic worship at Gaurikund, the Panchmukhi idol of Baba Kedarnath reached the holy Shri Kedar Dham. When the Doli reached the temple premises, there was an atmosphere of devotion among the devotees, the entire Dham echoed with the chanting of 'Jai Baba Kedar'.&rdquo;
The state government has made extensive preparations to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage experience for thousands of devotees expected to arrive in the coming weeks.
