India's Yuki Bhambri progressed to his maiden Grand Slam semifinal by advancing to the last four of the US Open men's doubles event with New Zealand partner Michael Venus.
The Indo-Kiwi duo upset 11th seeds Nikola Mektic and Rajeev Ram 6-3, 6-7(8), 6-3 in a quarterfinal clash on Court 17 to continue their impressive run on Wednesday.
Earlier, Bhambri and Venus had knocked out fourth seeds Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz in the pre-quarterfinals.
For Bhambri, 33, it marked a career breakthrough after years of battling injuries and transitioning from singles to doubles.
A former junior world No. 1 and the 2009 Australian Open boys&rsquo; champion, he has now achieved his best result at a senior Grand Slam.
"It has been an incredibly nerve-wracking experience, and at this moment, there is a whirlwind of emotions," Bhambri said while speaking on Jio Hotstar.
"We are simply grateful to have prevailed in such a challenging match. Our opponents made it extremely difficult for us with their vast experience as multiple Grand Slam champions, and competing against them truly tested our resolve at every stage." Talking about his decision to rejoin forces with Venus, Bhambri said the "timing felt right" to start competing together again.
"I am genuinely pleased to be by his side on the court. Having faced him multiple times as an opponent, I always preferred partnering with him rather than playing against him.
"It has been a wonderful journey so far, starting from the US summer tournament in Washington, and we are happy with the progress we&rsquo;ve made together." The result also extends India's legacy in men's doubles, in which the likes of Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna have excelled in the past.
The winners secured the first break of the match when Bhambri found a service return winner on Mektik's serve for a 3-1 lead. Venus' serve came under pressure in the very next game but the New Zealander managed to save, consolidating the break.
Bhambri locked the first set with an easy volley winner on Ram's return.
The Indian, however, lost his serve early in the second set, allowing Mektic and Ram to make a comeback in the match.
They got the break back to make it 4-4 but eventually lost the set in the tie-break when Bhambri served a double fault, facing set point. Bhambri saved a break point in game three of the decider to avert the danger.
Mektic was comfortably up 40-15 in game eight but the Indo-Kiwi pair got the break for a decisive 5-3 lead when Mektic could not return the angled backhand from the Indian after serving a double fault at deuce.
Serving for the match, Venus was down 0-40 but he and Bhambri saved all three and later two more and closed the game when Ram's backhand service return fell on the net.
Bhambri and Venus will face sixth seed British pair of Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski for a place in the final.

&ldquo;Any time you get a full crowd like this, how can we keep that going?&rdquo; Christian Harrison said after he and Danielle Collins lost 4-2, 4-2 to Errani and Vavassori in the semis. &ldquo;I mean, unreal night. I won't forget this night.&rdquo; Swiatek and Ruud edged the top-seeded team of Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper 3-5, 5-3 (10-8) in the other semifinal, battling back from an 8-4 deficit in the match tiebreaker.
The No. 2-ranked Swiatek, a six-time Grand Slam singles champion, and Ruud, who has reached three major singles finals, then played well in the final.
But they couldn't match the doubles prowess of the Italians, who won a second major title together at this year's French Open. Vavassori, with his height and constant movement around the net, was a hard target to pass even for Swiatek and Ruud, two accurate ball strikers from the baseline.
Errani is one of the most accomplished women's doubles players ever, having won a career Grand Slam with former partner Roberta Vinci, along with the 2024 Olympic gold medal with Jasmine Paolini &mdash; who was in the crowd cheering after pulling out of this event after losing to Swiatek on Monday night in the Cincinnati final.

Everyone should know by now to never count out Novak Djokovic. No matter how big a deficit he faces. No matter how poorly he might be playing.
And so it made sense that Djokovic would manage to come all the way back from a two-set deficit to beat Laslo Djere 4-6, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1, 6-3 in the third round of the U.S. Open, avoiding what would have been his earliest exit there since 2006.
&ldquo;Trust me,&rdquo; Djokovic said, &ldquo;it was nerve-racking all the way until the last shot.&rdquo; The match began under the lights in Arthur Ashe Stadium on Friday night and did not wrap up until more than 3 1/2 hours later, concluding just after 1:30 a.m.
It was Djokovic's eighth career victory after dropping the opening two sets of a match. He also improved to 38-11 in five-setters over his career.
Once he seized control, he held on tight and never let Djere recover. Djokovic was cool as can be in the crucible of a fifth set, collecting 12 of the initial 14 points to leave no doubt how this would go.
Djokovic has won three of his men's-record 23-time Grand Slam titles at Flushing Meadows and been the runner-up a half-dozen times, including in 2021. The 36-year-old from Serbia did not compete in the U.S. Open last year because he couldn't travel to the United States as a foreigner who is not vaccinated against COVID-19; that rule was lifted this May.
Djokovic is seeded No. 2 in New York behind Carlos Alcaraz, and pretty much everyone has been expecting the two of them to meet for the championship on Sept. 10. That would be a rematch of their riveting final at Wimbledon in July, which Alcaraz won in five sets.
That appeared as if it might be derailed by Djere, a 28-year-old from Serbia who was seeded 32nd in New York.
This would have been by far the biggest victory of his career: He was trying to reach the fourth round at a Grand Slam tournament for the first time and came into Friday with an 0-6 record at majors against opponents ranked in the Top 10.
Perhaps the intimidation factor that favors Djokovic in most matchups simply wasn't there on this cool evening -- at least at the start. The countrymen have known each other for years, practicing together, spending time as Davis Cup teammates and competing on tour as a doubles pairing.
When it ended, they met at the net for a hug.
Djokovic applauded as Djere walked off the court.
&ldquo;I didn't have much options in the beginning, but in the third, I kind of lifted myself up,&rdquo; Djokovic said. &ldquo;Once I got the break in the third, I thought, 'OK. I have a shot. I have a chance. I might as well go after it. ... I started to read his game mroe than I did in the first two sets.&rdquo;

Another aim: She wants to show women that it is possible to combine motherhood with a career.
Wozniacki, who turns 33 in July, has not played an official match since losing to Ons Jabeur in the third round of the Australian Open in January 2020. Wozniacki revealed a month earlier that her appearance at Melbourne Park would be the last of her career.
She and her husband, former NBA player David Lee, have a 2-year-old daughter and an 8-month-old son.
"Over these past three years away from the game I got to make up for lost time with my family, I became a mother and now have two beautiful children I am so grateful for. But I still have goals I want to accomplish. I want to show my kids that you can pursue your dreams no matter your age or role," Wozniacki wrote Thursday on Twitter.
"We decided as a family it's time. I'm coming back to play and I can't wait!" She was No. 1 in the WTA rankings for a total of 71 weeks &mdash; first reaching that spot in 2010 &mdash; and earned 30 titles, including the first in Grand Slam singles for a player from Denmark when she triumphed in Australia about 5 1/2 years ago.
Wozniacki twice was the runner-up at the U.S. Open, in 2009 to Kim Clijsters and in 2014 to good friend Serena Williams, and reached the semifinals at Flushing Meadows three other times.
She announced in October 2018 that she has rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune condition that can cause pain and swelling in the wrist and other joints.
"Am I nervous? Not really. I'm coming back to something I love. Yes, I'll be nervous before a match; I'm OK with that. I'm great with that. Can I win the U.S. Open? I think so. Can I win the Australian Open? I think so," Wozniacki wrote in a first-person piece for Vogue magazine posted on Thursday.
"That's why I'm doing this. And I guess we'll see what happens." She wrote about speaking to women &ldquo;who gave up on their own dreams because they wanted to be with their families, but somewhere deep down they have this yearning to do something they're passionate about.&rdquo; Wozniacki continued: "I want to show those women that maybe there's a way. It's certainly not easy to find the right balance &mdash; and I'm so lucky to have a supportive husband and supportive parents, and the help of a nanny &mdash; but I think it's possible. I want to prove that to myself and to those women. You can have both: You can be thrilled with your family and with everything at home and still have a career &mdash; and be great at it." Wozniacki said she began hitting tennis balls last year and, after her father &mdash; who was her coach for much of her career &mdash; agreed she was striking shots well, she "knew" she had to return.
"How long will I be able to play at my highest level &mdash; a year, two years, three years? I don't know. But I know that five years from now, when the kids are in school, it will be too late," she wrote.
"I'm not going to make any bold predictions &mdash; but if I didn't believe in myself, I wouldn't be doing this: I'm too competitive to just show up and not feel like I'm going to be one of the best players out there."
