Most women face this problem post-deliveries or at their menopausal age, but are reluctant to admit it due to fear of social stigma. Urinary Incontinence is affecting the lifestyle of thousands of women, however, very few know that it is medically treatable and avoidable.&nbsp;

Types of urinary incontinence

<li>Stress Incontinence which is known to cause urine leak in women if they cough, sneeze or laugh loudly</li>

Consumption of tea, tobacco and drinks leads to an increase in the prevalence of all types of incontinence among women. In mixed and stress incontinence, personal habit, delivery type, history of hysterectomy and asthma are also associated with incontinence.
Diagnosis and treatment&nbsp;of urinary&nbsp;incontinence
Stress Incontinence

<li>In case of any infection, medicines are prescribed</li>
<li>Uroflowmetry test is conducted to understand the hesitancy levels and urine holding capacity of patients</li>
<li>Sonography test can reveal the presence of any obstruction in urine path</li>
<li>Urodynamic test is further conducted</li>
<li>Post clinical examination and if needed, an operative procedure is suggested</li>

Women with weak urinary bladders report higher rates of depression and lower levels of self-worth, according to a new study.

According to a new study presented at the European Association of Urology Congress, women with weak urinary&nbsp;bladders or urinary incontinence are more likely to have mental health problems than women without incontinence. Urinary incontinence is the loss of bladder control, which results in the unintentional passing of urine.

For the study, researchers analysed the responses of 10,000 women above the age of 18. They then compared the prevalence of urinary incontinence with depression diagnoses and mental health consultations.
As per the findings, 29 percent of respondents reported urinary incontinence. The lowest percentage, 23 percent, was among women aged 20 to 40, while almost every third woman aged 55 and above experienced the problem. The results also indicated that women who experienced urinary incontinence went in for mental health consultations and 66 percent&nbsp;were more likely to be diagnosed with depression.
