India's foreign minister Jaishankar said that the Uri and Balakot strikes were India's befitting reply to the rising terrorism on the West front, in an apparent reference to Pakistan.

Union Minister S Jaishankar on Monday said the Uri and Balakot strikes were a befitting reply by India to the rising terrorism on the West front.
Jaishankar made the remark while addressing the Pandit Hriday Nath Kunzru Memorial Lecture 2024 on 'Bharat and the World' at the Jawaharlal Nehru University here.
"The Uri and Balakot strikes by India sent its own message to the world.
"The West front terrorism got a befitting reply," Jaishankar said while speaking about India's strengthening global footprint.
"There has been discernible, even if uneven, progress in economic and political re-balancing of the global order. The G20 has taken over the G7 and many new groupings and mechanisms have come into being.
"The list of the top economies of the world has undergone change and India itself has moved up six positions in the last decade," he said.&nbsp;

After more than two decades, cinema returned to strife-torn Manipur on August 15. Vicky Kaushal starrer &lsquo;Uri: The Surgical Strike&rsquo; was screened at a makeshift open-air theatre in Churachandpur and it was attended by a large number of people.
Before the screening of the movie, the national anthem was played.
The screening was organised by the Hmar Students Association (HSA) to express its opposition to the ban on Hindi movies imposed in September 2000 by &lsquo;Revolutionary People&rsquo;s Front&rsquo;, a political wing of the proscribed People&rsquo;s Liberation Army, a valley-based Meitei terror group.
&lsquo;It has been over two decades since a movie was screened in our town. The Meiteis have banned Hindi movies for a long long time,&rsquo; the statement read.
&lsquo;Today&rsquo;s move is to defy the anti-national policies of the Meitei groups and to show our love for India,&rsquo; Ginza Vualzong, spokesperson of Indigenous Tribal Leaders&rsquo; Forum, said in a brief statement.
The HSA said the last Hindi film that was publicly screened in Manipur was &lsquo;Kuch Kuch Hota Hai&rsquo; in 1998.
The organisation describes itself as the voice of Kuki tribes.
Manipur has been witnessing ethnic clashes between the majority Meitei and tribal Kuki communities since May 3 and so far over 160 people have been killed.

However, there is enough evidence of warm ties between&nbsp;Russia&nbsp;and&nbsp;Pakistan&nbsp;adopted as a countermeasure to warming&nbsp;ties&nbsp;between&nbsp;India&nbsp;and the US. The two countries carried out their first-ever joint military drills in 2016 despite&nbsp;Indian&nbsp;requests to postpone it due to the Uri attack. Russia has also supplied Mi-35M assault helicopters to Pakistan as part of the lifting of its embargo on arms sales to the country in 2014.
The cooperation between the US and India in a series of important defence agreements have resulted in Moscow and Islamabad going forward with more weapons trade.
