Senior Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman on Tuesday wrote to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, seeking a high-level inquiry into alleged irregularities in recruitments at Tripura University.
Roy Barman alleged that Vice Chancellor Ganga Prasad Prasain and Registrar Dipak Sharma were indulging in corruption in recruitment for teaching and non-teaching staff at the central varsity.
"They have flooded Tripura University with underqualified and ineligible outsiders, depriving genuine candidates from Tripura. Most shamefully, the vice chancellor has recruited his son as an engineer at the varsity, depriving all the bright locals," he alleged in the letter.
He said the issue was discussed in the assembly, and it was assured that an investigation would be started.
A case of corruption was also lodged with the local police, Roy Barman said.
Urging Pradhan to suspend the vice chancellor, he sought a high-level inquiry committee to probe the alleged irregularities.
"This is the public sentiment of Tripura and it requires immediate intervention of the UGC, Ministry of Education, Governor and Chief Minister of the state," he said.
An official of the varsity rejected the allegations as baseless.
"Some persons with vested interests turned hostile when their unlawful desires were not fulfilled," he said.

A third-year student of Shiv Nadar University in Uttar Pradesh's Greater Noida shot dead a female classmate inside the campus on Thursday.&nbsp;
As per India Today, the student identified as Anuj Singh killed his classmate inside the dining hall of the university. He later shot himself dead in the boys' hostel.&nbsp;
The victim and the accused were both pursuing BA in Sociology at the university.&nbsp;

"Besides, two more institutes namely Bhartiya Shiksha Parishad, Lucknow, and Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM) at Qutub Enclave in New Delhi are also found functioning in violation of the UGC Act, 1956. The matters of Bhartiya Shiksha Parishad, Lucknow and IIPM, New Delhi are sub-judice in the court," he added.Delhi has seven such fake universities - Commercial University Ltd, United Nations University, Vocational University, ADR Centric Juridicial University, Indian Institution of Science and Engineering, Vishwakarma Open University for Self Employment and Adhyatmik Vishwavidyalaya (Spiritual University).
Odisha and West Bengal have two such universities each. These are: Indian Institute of Alternative Medicine, Kolkata and Institute of Alternative Medicine and Research, Kolkata as well as Nababharat Shiksha Parishad, Rourkela and North Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology.

"The institutions may plan for classes, breaks, conduct of examinations, semester break etc. during October 1 to July 31, following necessary protocols and advisories issued by central and state governments from time to time in view of COVID-19 pandemic," the guidelines said.
In view of the financial hardships faced by parents during the pandemic, the commission has asked varsities and HEIs to ensure fee is fully refunded in cases of cancellation of admission or migration of students.
It has also been made mandatory for universities and colleges to conduct final year or end term exams by August 31. The exams can be conducted in either offline, online or in blended mode.&nbsp;
