In its latest update, Unitech believed to have siphoned off huge amounts of money to various shell companies
According to ET reports, shell companies have admitted to the agency that they were appointed as directors in lieu of payment of ₹10,000 to 20,000 per month and that they were only called to sign certain documents occasionally at different locations
One of the shell companies, Brisbane Realtors Pvt Ltd, was used to hold a property in its name in village near Gurgaon, they claimed.
The Chandra brothers were arrested in April 2017 on charges of duping homebuyers in 74 projects. ED got into the picture after a Supreme Court-mandated forensic audit of Unitech conducted in 2018 revealed that part of the ₹14,000 crore invested by nearly 30,000 homebuyers in 74 Unitech housing projects was laundered to offshore shell companies.

Over 52 shell companies were created to help&nbsp;Unitech&nbsp;to launder money as per reports. Unnamed sources privy to an Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation told ET that Unitech&nbsp;promoters controlled and managed shell companies and hired fradulent&nbsp;directors as well.&nbsp;
According to ET, the probe agency investigation has unearthed that&nbsp;directors were 'hired' for ₹10,000 to 20,000 per month and that they were only called to sign certain documents occasionally at different locations

Unitech&nbsp;diverted funds worth Rs 2345 cr to tax havens claimed the Enforcement Directorate while seeking custodial interrogation of Unitech founder Ramesh Chandra and his daughter-in-law Preeti Chandra, who were arrested on Monday.Addressing a local court in the capital the ED stated that their probe&nbsp;investor funds were diverted by Unitech&nbsp; to the Cayman Islands, Cyprus, Isle of Man, Mauritius, Jersey, Singapore, the UK, the US the UAE. ET reports that the agency in it's submissions to court that the Unitech Chandra family had invested the diverted funds in equity of various shell/benami&nbsp;companies.
The court sent Ramesh Chandra to ED's custody till October 8 and Preeti Chandra till October 9.

The Supreme Court on Friday granted 15-day interim bail to Unitech Ltd's former promoter Sanjay Chandra to attend the last rites of his father-in-law who expired this week.&nbsp;Earlier in July last year, the SC granted Chandra&nbsp;interim bail on &lsquo;humanitarian grounds&rsquo;&nbsp;as both his parents tested positive for novel coronavirus,&nbsp;and have been hospitalised.
Both Chandra brothers are accused of allegedly siphoning homebuyers' money. SC in its October 2017 order had asked them to deposit Rs 750 crore with the apex court registry by December 31, 2017.
