The Cabinet on Wednesday approved Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana for a period of six years, covering 100 districts with an annual outlay of Rs 24,000 crore.
The programme, announced in the Union Budget, will converge 36 existing schemes and increase adoption of crop diversification and sustainable agricultural practices.
Sharing details about the decision taken at the Union Cabinet, I&amp;B Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana will augment post-harvest storage, improve irrigation facilities, and enhance farm productivity.
This programme is likely to help 1.7 crore farmers.

The Union Cabinet has approved the creation of a Third Launch Pad at ISRO's Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, aimed at supporting next-generation launch vehicles, backup for existing infrastructure.

The Union Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the establishment of a Third Launch Pad (TLP) at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, on Thursday.
The TLP is designed to support the Indian Space Research Organisation's (ISRO) next-generation launch vehicles (NGLV) and serve as a backup to the existing second launch pad.

It will also enhance India&rsquo;s space exploration capabilities, particularly in supporting future human spaceflight missions.
Featuring a versatile and adaptable design, the TLP will be able to accommodate various launch vehicles, including the NGLV, LVM3 with a semi-cryogenic stage, and upgraded NGLV configurations.

The project will build on ISRO&rsquo;s prior experience in developing launch pads and involve significant collaboration with industry partners. Existing infrastructure at the launch complex will be optimized during the construction process.
The TLP project, with an estimated cost of Rs 3,984.86 crore, is set to be completed within 48 months.
This new facility will strengthen India&rsquo;s space ecosystem, enabling more frequent launches and advancing the country's capabilities in human spaceflight and space exploration missions. It is recognized as a project of national importance.
Currently, India's space transportation systems rely on two launch pads: the First Launch Pad (FLP) and the Second Launch Pad (SLP).
FLP, established 30 years ago, has supported PSLV and SSLV launches.
SLP, created primarily for GSLV and LVM3, has been operational for nearly 20 years, contributing to national missions like Chandrayaan-3 and commercial PSLV/LVM3 missions.
Additionally, SLP is being prepared for the human-rated LVM3 launch for the Gaganyaan mission.
With the expanded vision of India's space program during the Amrit Kaal, including the Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS) by 2035 and a planned Indian Crewed Lunar Landing by 2040, new, heavier launch vehicles with advanced propulsion systems are required.
These vehicles cannot be supported by the current launch pads. Therefore, establishing a Third Launch Pad is crucial to cater to the next-generation launch vehicles and act as a backup for SLP. This development is essential to meet the growing space transportation needs for the next 25 to 30 years.

Reports quoting sources said that following the Cabinet&rsquo;s approval, the Government will introduce an amendment to the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006 in Parliament. The government will then also bring amendments to the Special Marriage Act and personal laws such as the Hindu Marriage Act of 1955.

The raising of the minimum age is based on recommendations submitted to Niti Aayog in December 2020 by the Centre&rsquo;s task force headed by Jaya Jaitly.
The task force had clarified that its reasoning behind the recommendation was never one of population control, but the empowerment of women.
Women&rsquo;s age of marriage was increased from 15 years to 18 years in 1978.

Kerala HC refuses to stay Thiruvananthapuram airport privatisation

PTI,&nbsp;Kochi:&nbsp;The Kerala High Court on Tuesday declined to stay the further proceedings in leasing out Thiruvananthapuram international airport to Adani Enterprises.
Considering an application by the Kerala government seeking the stay, the court adjourned the case for detailed hearing.
Directing the government to produce the documents before September 9, the bench said a detailed hearing in the matter will be held on September 15.
In its application, the state government said unless the stay is granted, it will be put to irreparable injury and hardship.
The state government filed the application in the court, after an all-party-meeting in the state demanded withdrawal of the Union Cabinet's decision last week to lease out the airport to Adani Enterprises.
Last year, the high court had dismissed the petition challenging the decision, terming it as not maintainable under Article 226 of the Constitution.
The state government then filed an appeal before the Supreme Court against the high court order.
The apex court set aside the judgement of the high court and the matter was remanded back to it for a decision on merit.
Referring to the top court directive, the state government said, "all further proceedings in relation to grant of lease with regard to operation, management and development of Thiruvananthapuram international airport to Adani Enterprises Ltd, is to be stayed pending disposal of the aforementioned writ petition."&nbsp;
