Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit talked about his expectations from the 2023 Union Budget, which was presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday. Talking to news agency ANI, he said that no government has taken the entertainment industry seriously and given it the same importance as other industries.

But unfortunately, our entertainment industry has always been neglected by government after government. We have not been spoken about the way other industries are spoken about in the budget, whether it's the textile industry, whether it's the soap industry or health industry. The way other industries are identified, discussed, debated and benefits are thought for those industries, the entertainment industry has not been given that kind of importance or seriousness by any government till date.&rsquo;
He added, &lsquo;We have been discussing, we have been approaching but unfortunately that seriousness, as far as our industry is concerned, is not there in the politics of this country.&rsquo;
He further shared how the film industry is one of the biggest taxpayers of the country and during all kinds of troubles like corona they play a very important role by entertaining the people sitting at home.
&lsquo;We were responsible for people not getting mentally ill. So this industry has to be taken seriously by the governments and not only use us as promoters during elections or calling for events,&rsquo; he said.&nbsp;

Big boost for Sports Ministry in Union Budget

The Union Budget 2023 brings up a big boost for the Sports Ministry in terms of revised allocations

The ministry's flagship programme, 'Khelo India -- National Programme for Development of Sports' continues to be the government's priority, with it being allotted Rs 1,045 crore.

&nbsp;In a year when the Indian athletes will compete at the Asian Games and prepare for 2024 Paris Olympics, the Sports Ministry has got a fillip with the government allocating Rs 3,397.32 crore, an increase of Rs 723.97 crore, in the Union Budget on Wednesday.
The amount is more than the revised budget of the previous financial year (2022-23) when the ministry received Rs 2,673.35 crore, as against the actual allocation of Rs 3,062.60 crore.
One of the reasons for the reduced revised allocation for 2022-23 could be the postponement of the Hangzhou Asian Games, which will be held this year.
An increase of Rs. 439 crore for Khelo India has brought the sports budget to a new high of Rs. 3,397.32 crore. Khelo India&rsquo;s budget of Rs. 1,045 crore accounts for just under a third of the total allocation as well.

The budget has retained the fiscal deficit projection for 2022-23 at 6.4 per cent, while the target for the next fiscal year has been set at 5.9 per cent

Budget 2023&nbsp; Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has tabled the Union Budget 2023 in Parliament, pegging total expenditure for the fiscal year 2023-24 at Rs 45 lakh crore. Of this over Rs 10 lakh crore has been allocated for capital expenditure. The allocation for capital expenditure is the highest ever, with a whopping increase of 33% compared to the previous year's allocation.
The Finance Minister has also announced the highest-ever capital outlay for the Railways at Rs 2.4 lakh crore. &nbsp;The FM said that the allocation for the Railways is now nine times the amount provided in 2013-14. On the receipts front, the government is expecting to earn Rs 26.3 lakh crore through the next fiscal year.
This includes Rs 23.3 lakh crore rupees in tax revenue and Rs 3 lakh crore in non-tax revenue. The government also expects to earn Rs&ensp;23,000 crore through the recovery of loans and Rs&ensp;61,000 crore through other receipts. Apart from these, the government has pegged its borrowings and other liabilities at Rs 17.8 lakh crore during the next fiscal year.
Shifting the focus to fiscal deficit, the budget has retained the projection for 2022-23 at 6.4 per cent. Some experts were expecting the figure to be revised downwards. The fiscal deficit target for the next fiscal year has been set at Rs 17.86 lakh crore or 5.9 per cent of the GDP. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has also reiterated that she aims to bring the fiscal deficit below 4.5 per cent by the fiscal year 2024-25.
